Hi all,

I take AUD in 2 1/2 weeks. I have been studying for about 2 weeks and have completed about 70% of the material but feel like I could use some advice on how to really make sure I nail the exam. In FAR I know the biggest thing people stressed was making sure I practice journal entries over and over in order to nail the simulations. What’s the one thing (or two or three) that you would stress when studying for AUD?

I have the Ninja AUD audio course and that has been pretty helpful too.

I'm taking audit 2/29 and have been studying since 1/16. I am just about through the material. This will be my last exam and the material seems very easy to me which is a little frightening (just completed FAR though so anything without a calculation is refreshing). Plan to do MCQ non-stop for two weeks for review.

Go slow on the actual exam, read the questions twice, and most importantly be able to justify not only why the answer is correct but why the other 3 options are not. The AUD material is easy to study and understand but the way they test it is pretty tricky. Good luck to you guys.

like CPA2BEE said, go slow on the exam. There is MORE than enough time for audit, and so many times reading carefully helps. I feel like half my questions were “which of the following are NOT” or “all but…” questions. Also, do as many MCQs as humanly possible and go over them all and understand why you got them right and why the answers are wrong. Audit was the only exam that I focused like crazy on MCQs and ignored SIMS (except adjusting journal entries and ratios…since those are the only topics that could be SIMS that are not part of the MCQ practice) and it landed me with a 98.

Read and reread the material.

Ditto reading each question slowly. I never flag questions, but I reread each question twice before answering, no matter how easy it appeared to be. The questions are worded very tricky, and one word can completely change the meaning of the question and correct answer.

I am taking it this month and I agree with go slow. I am only doing new Q”s on MCQ (229 left that are new) and I find myself missing Q”s I should know b/c I am trying to blaze through them. I was so used to seeing the Q's being repeated I would just figure I knew the answer right away and select the wrong one in error.

I just finished all the Becker material, so im thinking of doing 30 MCQ from each chapter,, then doing 60 from chapters 1-2-3 and 4-5-6 and then start doing 90 from all chapters to also start getting used to the timing and work on it. It's my first test and I'll take it on Feb 22nd.

Any additional pointers?

I agree with Cb_6185. Reading the questions carefully is very important a lot of mine were which is the LEAST or MOST likely type of answers. Misreading those can cause you a problem. Some are all except etc. Good Luck!

Make sure you understand the concepts, not just have memorized a lot of little details. I've said that a million times on this forum, but it's the most important thing for AUD. You can memorize the audit reports word-for-word – or heck, you can memorize the whole book word-for-word for that matter – but if you don't understand the mindset behind AUD and how to think like an auditor, then you'll be in trouble for this exam. If you work in any type of accounting (auditing, tax, private accounting, etc.), then I'd urge you to while you're at work try to look at your work through the eyes of an auditor, just as an exercise in thinking like an auditor. Think about the documentation practices that you do, and why an auditor might require them. What would they be testing when they check it? How could you circumvent the process? How could they test to find that circumvention? Etc.

AUD is all about understanding, not about memorization. If you understand how to think through the process, you can pass it with minimal knowledge (compared to the other exams). Don't get me wrong; you still need to know a lot of stuff…but of all 4 exams, this one is the one that's least about knowledge and most about understanding concepts.

Do a ton of questions! Ready each question carefully because one word can change the answer. But make sure to save yourself plenty of time for the sims.

I passed Aud and my study method was to redo all questions the 2 weeks before the exam.
