Becker's Calculator

    Hi Everyone,

Is anyone having an issue with Becker’s Calculator? For example, today I was trying to calculate self-employment tax using the calculator and I kept getting an”overflow” error. Is this happening to anyone else or is it just me? Should I be concerned with this on the day of the exam?

Any comment/previous experience would be appreciated :).

I just tried Becker's calculator and I didn't have any problems, so hopefully your issue resolved itself. Don't worry about exam day–you won't be using Becker software. It is acceptable to ask the testing center for a handheld calculator (AICPA sent me a personal email confirming this), however, some people have reported that there were no calculators available at their testing centers. I would rather use the software calculator, because you can see the “tape” and make sure you didn't fat-finger anything. I have problems with Becker's spreadsheet. It gives me troubles when I use the SUM function.

Thank you, do you know if you are allowed to bring your own calculator? (I don't think so but just want to be sure). Thanks. @1Koolcat

I think I have your answer for the becker spreadsheet trouble on SUM.

You must capitalize the cell letters

example =SUM(A1:a4) will give you an error, but =SUM(A1:A4) will work. the SUM part can be lower case I have found, but anything inside the parenthesis must be in CAPS!

First go at the CPA! Only using Becker

    Mroque,

You cannot bring your own calculator. You might want to call the testing center ahead of time to make sure they have calculators available, but that doesn't guarantee they won't run out or that you will like the style they have. You should get familiar with the Becker calculator, in case you are forced to use it on exam day.

    Trele6,

thanks for the help, I have been using lowercase!
