Does anyone know why or a have a theory as to why BEC pass rates use to be on par and even lower than other test to then increase dramatically?

It used to not have sims – only written communications, which were 30% of your grade. This was a disadvantage to people who were weaker at writing. Just one possible variable.

I'm not sure what the rates are now, but, historically, BEC had the highest pass rate and was regarded as easiest because it didn't have SIMs, and the writing section is not challenging (ESL notwithstanding).
