I sit for BEC in a week from now and am currently reviewing with Becker. However, I don’t feel as prepared as I did for AUD (I passed AUD) at about this time and was looking for tips on what to focus on. Also, for those of you have taken BEC recently, are the computational problems as detailed as they are in Becker? I’d appreciated any advice!

    AUD - 90
    BEC - 79
    REG - 82
    FAR - TBD

Averaging in the 60s during sets of 20-30 in Ninja MCQ…exam in 5 days and the panic is beginning to creep in (thats a lie I've been panicking with these scores for two weeks now)…not sure what do next, go back and reread my textbook or continue drilling MCQs…help.

Another poster said that BEC is a mile wide and an inch deep … I think that is really the best description. I took BEC in august and my entire first testlet seemed to be calculations. They were not too detailed. I failed because I was incredibly unprepared to take the exam.
I am sitting on 2/27 and I feel like I don't even remember B2 or B3 material (although I was good at it when I went through it)… I think part of it is laziness on my part because it take so much time to get through the questions. I am working on B4 today. Tomorrow will be B5 and Wednesday will be B6. Then I need to go back over B1-3 again. I am a little stressed out.

Not too detailed meaning what exactly?

Not too in depth. I don't think they will make you go through several calculations to get to your answer. For the most part they are one step solutions. The can be more involved, of course, but in reality they have to make the test fair and that wouldn't allow for many of the questions you see in the study materials.

I just cant seem to understand how this has the highest passing rate, the combination of conceptual and amount of formulas is just too much. Feels like way more then FAR, i hope that Beckers and Ninja just way over does it and that its not the same level of difficulty.

Thank you for clearing that up, that was my concern exactly. I'm do fairly well with the calculations but when they add fluff I get thrown off big time.

mitchmatch – I am guessing that you are going to make at least an 80 in BEC based on your previous scores.

I got a 67 on BEC without studying B3 and my whole test felt like B3! I got a 67 while scoring weaker on every topic (that they give you in the score report). I have no idea how they grade this thing, but the actual test is not as convoluted as the study materials. My main concern is that it feels that it the exam tends to be skewed to a small concentration of topics.

and I thought I was saving the “easiest” for last…definitely not the easiest to study for, and I've never resorted to punching my books until now.

I just took bec today, the computational probs were not as detailed as Becker. Becker has you you do 10 min probs when 3 min would do the same. Know the concepts, know how to derive parts of equations highlighted in the material. Nail down the concepts I would say is the most important.

stozzo – are you saying know the logic behind the formulas? Or do we need to know the formulas that are emphasized in the text? or both?

I just took bec today as well. All my computations were simple, not closed to what I had practiced which also makes me nervouse I might not pass. They threw some too much info and you really have to know concepts to pick the right numbers to solve the problems. None of my computations were over 1min long solving. I had tons of IT, a few never heard of those words. I'm just wishing for 75!!!

I would say know the logic but def know the relationships between the ratios so you can derive one from the parts they give you for the other (if that makes sense). @zyx I was in the same boat, comps were not that bad, not sure if that is a good sign or not. Though the practice problems were pretty ridiculous so perhaps that worked to our advantage. Here's to hoping.

Glad to hear that those of you who took the exam are saying the computation are not longen the a minute. Becker has me freaking out, every problem has like 4 or 5 long computations.

@tajeen definitely agree, i also thought i was leaving the easiest for last, turns out for me this is the hardest. From now on anytime i meet a potential future cpa candidate i will debunk the notion that BEC is the easiest of the four.
