BEC – it's odd. That an okay feeling to have while studying?

I’ve been going through my becker account on BEC. 70% of the hw and 100% of the lectures are done. I have 10 days and plan to wrap up the HW, do some progress tests, and the 2 finals.

I’ve noticed BEC is somewhat random, becker isn’t covering everything in the book that’s in the MCQs. I’m hearing the exam is a very “what the heck is this” kind of thing with people walking out getting 85s afterwards.

Not sure what to make of all of it. FAR and REG are very black and white on content. Past the economic theory, financial valuation formula, COSO mnemonic, and little details of cost – it’s all pretty random.

Is it okay to think that 10 days from the exam? Jeez.

    Yes.

It's normal to feel like it's random.

BEC is one of those exams where you need a bit of luck in a few things. I ended up getting a very weird exam with material that I have never seen in any of course studies.

Suffice it to say, I was furious but I realized that if I didn't see it then others must've had the same experience which negates my disadvantage.

The point is that you aren't going to know everything that they can possibly ask of you. It's impossible because there are so many topics and types of questions that can be asked. As a result, you need to understand the topics as best as you can and go in that exam knowing that you did the best you can. That's all any of us can do with an exam that has so much material.

From your comment, you seem to be in a good place right now. Don't slack, keep pushing mcq whilst making sure you understand why you got them wrong and you will give yourself the best opportunity to pass.

    AUD: 85 (3/8/16)
    FAR: 77 (6/7/16)
    BEC: ??? (9/7/16)
    REG: ???

Yes. You should be ok. I only studied 3 weeks and work full time. I didn't pass but was close and was averaging 60-65% on my practices. You are way above that and have more preparation. you should be ok.

I said the same thing when I studied for BEC but the key is to push through the questions as they make up 85% of your score. Do as many progress tests as you can, do the practice exam questions, and the recently released AICPA questions. In my experience I did not think the content on the exam was as “left field” as when I was studying with Becker but it is better to be over-prepared than under. Also, spend these last few days going over formulas. They definitely come in handy. I believe you will do great on the exam!!

    AUD – 64, 74, 84
    BEC – 64, 81
    FAR – 72, 75
    REG – 64, 85

Studying for the exam, yes I felt this way. Its the bastard child of the CPA exam with a whole bunch of mish mash thrown in.

That said, I felt the actual exam was significantly easier than FAR and REG..

BEC is a mile wide and an inch deep. Definitely the easiest exam in my opinion, just don't over-divulge into one subject too much – know a little about everything. I studied by far the least for this one and passed it on the first try, I think I only studied like 4 weeks or something while working full time. You smoked REG and FAR, I'm sure you'll breeze through BEC.

    FAR - 80
    AUD - 82
    BEC - 80
    REG - 85

    ETHICS - 90
    EXPERIENCE - COMPLETE

Get the stuff down that you KNOW will be on there…operate under the theory that the stuff you don't know is likely experimental Qs that won't count, or can be solved by applying concepts from other areas.

The cost accounting WILL be on there…know it cold. Including variance. COSO WILL, unfortunately, be on there. IT will be there. Economic theory will be there. Know that stuff well and you should be good.
