Hello,

So I have BEC coming up for June 6. I haven’t started studying since I have been busy with the end of the semester and graduation. Is it doable to be prepared for BEC in 3 weeks? I just found out last week I passed FAR which is the first section I took. I have Ninja Notes and Becker. How should I approach this? I purchased Ninja MCQ for FAR and I think I liked the format for Ninja much better but I’m trying to not spend extra cash at the moment.

It would really depend on how much time you can put in those 3 weeks. Are you done with exams already? Do you have a part time or full time job? If you can put in maybe 40-50 hours or studying per week for two weeks and then save a whole week for review, then it is possibly do-able. I have Becker, Ninja Notes and Ninja Audio. In order to really succeed with Becker, you have to really put the time in to watch the lectures and that can be so time consuming. How long did you take to study for FAR? You have the advantage of already knowing what study style works best for you. I would continue what you were doing.

It can be done. I did it in 20 days. Similar thing happened where I put studying off until I had 20 days left. Then I decided that I was going to pass or die trying in that time period. I only used Ninja Notes and Ninja MCQ. I read Ninja Notes everyday for half hour to one hour (just start reading from front to back and then start over again). It would be better to write the notes out but there isn't enough time to do that. That would take at least 3-4 days. You will start to notice about 10 days in or so that subjects you are reading that made no sense before are starting to become clearer. For Ninja MCQ, I went through each section and tried answering every question. When I saw every question once, I went back to the ones I got wrong. I did those until I answered every question in the section correctly once. Then I moved on to the next section. I continued like that until I completed all sections. Then I started my review. This consisted of going through each section with random question sets of 20-30 questions. I kept doing those question sets until my trending score was close to 80%. Start with the section most heavily weighted on the exam and work your way down to the least weighted section on the exam. This will be a long process. You will have many late, late nights. But it is worth it. I avoided the TBS questions because I thought it was more important to know the MCQs considering the time crunch. Also, if you know the MCQs really well, then you will be able to work your way through the TBS. By time it was all said and done, I did over 2200 questions. Good luck!

The first thing to do would be to go through the book and write down the formulas chapter-by-chapter and review those daily before working any MCQs. If I had to rank the conceptual sections, I would say 1.) COSO 2.) IT 3.) Economics, so drill those with Ninja Notes if you can…

Would you say that it is pointless to go through the Becker video lectures? Roughly 4 hours for each chapter just for a lecture just seems like it would take up too much of the time I have left to study. I have Ninja Audio for BEC so perhaps I should just use the Ninja audio and go from there. I enjoy the way Jeff presents things and his voice is not annoying to me like the Becker guys. I also found that highlighting for Becker was absolutely pointless as after I went through FAR chapters once, I never really looked at the book again and when I did look it wasn't much of a help in terms of narrowing things down since there was a lot of unnecessary highlighting (my opinion).

For me, the notes from the lectures helped me understand the material a lot better. If I were you, I would write the notes using the ebook instead of watching the lecture and read over the chapter at least once before starting the MCQ. That should save you some time. The audio is good for on-the-go studying but I feel that it is not as thorough as the book. I also purchased the Ninja notes as right over the notes once I am done with the chapter.

The video lectures are probably a great resource. However, with such little time left, I would not use them. I would read the notes and then start answering as many MCQs as possible. You will end up doing at least 2000 MCQs (do them as many times as it takes to answer each once correctly). Each time you do a question, not only study what made a certain choice correct, but what made other choices incorrect. As far as writing down all the formulas in each chapter and going through them before starting MCQ, that might be redundant. You don't have much time. If you had a ton of time to prepare, that would be a great way to go about it. But with going through so many MCQs, you will come across all the formulas several times. They will be drilled into your head along with all the other concepts. If you are having trouble remembering them after some MCQs, then write it down in your notes. Keep you own notes of subjects that you are struggling with. Briefly review your notes before you start doing MCQs everyday. Constantly doing MCQs will drill this material into your head better than trying to simply memorize formulas in such a short time.

I suggest focusing on Ninja MCQs. It's a cheap investment to make for a potentially big payoff. Shoot for at least 200 per day, and I think you'll have a good chance at a passing score. Good luck!
