Does anyone know if there is a specific AICPA section that requires notes to the financial statements for audited financial statements?

If you're looking at AL, think of it as what requires disclosures. It'll say what has to be in the Notes, not Notes are required. Can't tell you exact guidance on my phone right now, sorry!

If you referring to whether the footnotes are required by a specific statement, then the various Accounting standards requires different levels of disclosures. I don't think that it specifically states that there should be this or that footnote, that is generated through company and industry general standards.

Thanks for the replies everyone. My boss was looking for a quick turnaround regarding the audited financial statement requirements, specifically the disclosure of notes to the financial statements.

I also found this which provides a definition on what constitutes a “complete set of financial statements”. https://www.aicpa.org/research/standards/auditattest/downloadabledocuments/au-c-00200.pdf

I'll probably look around a bit more, but this has been very helpful.
