Hey A71! Looking for some study tips for AUD. I’m currently through the book and assessment questions with 5 weeks left before the test. Since I’m so far ahead I’m watching the lectures now too and that’s the only studying I plan to do up until 3 weeks away. Then I’ll pound MCQ.

I guess my only question is; is it necessary to memorize word for word things for AUD? Or is just having a good understanding good enough? Looking to hear from anyone who has passed AUD.

    Using CPAExcel.

I personally would not wait until only 3 weeks away to do MCQ. I would doa little bit every day at least. I have Becker so I can't speak to CPAexcel but definitely important to stay fresh. In studying audit, what I've seen is there are definitely some things you need to have the word for word memorized. But if you put in the time you start to recognize and have a general understanding.

I started to score a lot better in AUD once I slowed down and analyzed the MCQ instead of guessing too fast

FAR- taken 8/11/16....now the wait begins
    AUD- scheduled 9/8/16
    BEC- scheduled 10/9/16
    REG-scheduled 12/10/16

I agree with what lblacker said about MCQs – except I think you should pound them every day from now until test day.

When you're watching lectures, are you taking notes too?

I would ditch the lectures and keep pounding mcq's and reading through the book and your notes. I feel the lectures are the least valuable for AUD since it's mostly conceptual and they're basically reading the book back to you. I didn't memorize anything, but you need a strong understanding of the audit process and the wording in the different types of reports.

Be really careful when reading through the questions because one word can change everything. When you get sick of doing mcq's mix in some sims, but I wouldn't bother with the research ones. Know how the ratios (A/R Turnover, Inventory Turnover, Gross Profit %, etc.) can effect the financial statements and what their purpose is. I'd also brush up on adjusting entries and year end adjustments.

Take the AICPA practice exam so you get familiar with the AL and how to search through it. Read through the titles on the standards so you know where to search. You may get lucky and have a sim that you can find word for word in the AL if you know where to look. Try to leave yourself at least 2 hours for the sims so you have enough time to search for answers.
