Audit – OMG it\'s SO BORING and TEDIOUS

Taking an Auditing course for the first time en route to 150 hours for the CPA exam. So far I want to gas myself, this course is SO DULL.

I guess I just like quant courses more. Audit seems to be all about SEMANTICS. Ugh, I didn’t major in English, for a reason!

Does it get more interesting later in the coursework (and in the second Auditing course)?

“…performing tests of details of transactions to detect material misstatements pertains more directly to detection risk rather than inherent or control risk.” (OMG WHO CARES? Just give me some g*dd*mn numbers to crunch!!)

Okay, rant over; back to stultifying, I mean, studying.

audit was/is my least favorite section. Best thing for audit is, not to get lost in the details without seeing the big picture first. I have taken and failed AUD once already (MCQs were good, SIMS were the killer in my case) its the next exam on my list after FAR for re-take.

    FAR: 76
    REG: Currently studying
    AUD:
    BEC:

I know how frustrating it is to pour all of your efforts into an exam, only to fail. I also know the pain of getting 2 74s as my 18 month window expired for FAR. 1 point more each and I wouldve been finished 6 months earlier.

Also, even if you wind up becoming a tax accountant or actuary, you still need to present your ideas to others in writing. You have to know the regulations, which are structured a lot worse than any of the AUD stuff.

That said, keep going. You'll get there.

I feel the same exact way. Audit is dreadful. I'm using Becker and Ninja and all of the lectures are soo hard to watch. I started skipping the becker lectures because they're literally just reading the book and thats not helpful for me at all. If anyone has any tips on how to study audit, please let me know!

I also used Becker, and I agree, the lectures were tedious. When I had been through them once, I switched to Ninja Notes and MCQs, and really focused on the MCQs, doing them all the time in the last week until I was trending 90%. I would also recommend taking the AICPA practice exam as others suggested on this forum. I ended up with an 86 and I give Ninja full credit.

I feel the same way – I'm a Controller in industry and I truly hate the Audit study material.

I have my AUD exam this Thursday – just got a 77% on the Wiley 4 hour practice exam. Is that enough to pass the real thing? I feel like I'm on the edge here.

I thought, I was the only one struggling with this section. I am using Wiley & Ninja and can not motivate myself to go through the material. I have invested 2+ months on this already and not even 50% through the material. I am amazed to see that some of us are able to cover this section 4 weeks. In school, I just took one summer class on this subject (not a good idea, didn't learn anything except adjunct Prof. s stories) and have no auditing experience. I really need some good tips to study so that I can take this exam in this testing window.
P.S: I should be studying now instead of reading the forum posts. 😉

Good Luck @Iceman, you will do great. Wiley Practice exams are harder than actual exam. I was on the same boat as you few months back, freaking out after getting 72% on FAR Wiley practice exam.

Have you done BEC yet? I thought I disliked AUD until I got to BEC. I would literally re-take AUD any day over BEC. I struggled with Audit as I have no experience whatsoever, but the exam really wasn't that bad. I'm sure you will do amazing!
