Audit Exam – Feelings Afterwards

    Hello everyone,

I took AUD on 2/13 and walked out of there feeling like I aced the test. There were a few MC questions that I feel like were tricky, but I think I figured most of them out. As for the Simulations, I don’t think I have ever gotten easier ones in the past. I keep hearing that if you think you passed you didn’t….such a bad feeling. I thought that I failed REG in November and passed with an 83. Any thoughts?

First off, congrats on the exam and don't overanalyze your experience too much! 🙂 AUD was a strange exam for me. The other 2, my feeling about each approximated what my score was. For AUD, I felt like the chances of getting a 95 were just as high as getting a 65. It's not that I thought it was that hard, but the wording is so tricky – especially the SIMS. I think a good indicator of how well you did is if you sense that the MCQ testlets became more difficult. Since it's an adaptive exam, it's supposed to give you harder questions if you do well on the first testlet. I would say try not to think too much about it. I felt strange after AUD, and my score wound up being in the same range as my other 2 exams, so who knows.

    BEC - 88 8/29/15
    REG - 82 11/14/15
    AUD - 83 1/8/16
    FAR - 80 2/29/16

Jdn, so would you say my chances of failing my exam are pretty high if I didnt notice any difficulty increase for the testlets? Most of the questions I got were short with 2-3 sentences at most 5 sentences for like 5-6 problems. I can't keep my mind off of it and its affecting my studies for FAR. I know the results are coming out in a few days and nothing can be done at this point, I just can't stop thinking. How do you guys get over this phase (potentially a fail)?

Thanks for the advice! I find out this coming Tuesday 2/23, so only a little longer to wait. I have also read about how the test is supposed to get more difficult, but have also come to understand that what may come easier to someone may be harder to others. The AUD material is very subjective. I'm not saying I am a genius at AUD, but I have taken it three times before, got a 69, 70, and 71, and prepared very well this time. I combined Becker with over 1500 additional questions from Wiley CPA, and felt extremely prepared. Only thing is, I can't exactly say that the testlets got harder. I don't think they got easier, I just think they stayed the same. A mix of very easy questions with some that were worded tricky. Guess all I can do is wait now.

    REG – 83 11/25/15
    AUD – Took 2/13
    FAR – May 2016
    BEC – July 2016

Spartans 92……..I took the test on 2/13 and feel the EXACT SAME as you do. I can't stop thinking about my result and I am actually waiting to start studying for FAR until I find out my score. I honestly think that I passed but the fact that I didn't see any difficulty change in the questions worries me. This entire exam is a sick mind game. Especially with them making us wait. How were your simulations Spartans 92?

MJ based on your experience is what I described a bad sign? I don't think the questions were easier nor harder, it was the same level as test 1. There were occasionally wordy questions but not too many. The SIMS were tough tho I guessed on maybe 4 of them. I don't think my chances are high for a 75. Best wishes!

The fact is, if you feel like you aced the test and you end up failing it is because you really didn't know the subject. If you are confident that your answers were right, for the most part, then you should pass.
The first time I took audit I felt well prepared. I got through the exam and felt like I did well enough to pass and ended up with a 55! When I went back to study, I realized from my previous notes and from the second exposure that I really did not understand some very important items. The second time I took AUD I walked out feeling like if I didn't pass I didn't know what else I could do if I had to study next time. My sims were difficult for me, but I pulled off a 78 and passed.

I guess what I am trying to illustrate is that it is really hard to tell if you passed or not. I never feel confident walking out of the test center =(

That is very true Malo Tu I was told if you every had the “I wish I could do this” feeling means you did not fully prepare yourself and have set yourself up for potential failure. But if you get out the exam having the “I don't know what else could be done” means you have tried your best and the results would tend to be in your favor. For me, I think the hardest was the SIMS they were very Financial based and I regret not looking over FAR when I had a week of review. Most likely I failed. Nevertheless, it was a good experience tho.

I understand the illustration. I was just worried about things I have heard about how the testlets “must get harder” or you failed because you did bad on the first testlet. Feeling the way I do, (and the fact that I got simulations that I felt very comfortable with), I just don't think I believe or agree with that logic. I thought I aced REG MC questions and bombed SIMS and ended up with an 83 so its hard to gauge…Guess I will find out on Monday at midnight. I will post on here then and update. If I pass this as I think I did, I will have to post my study habits as I think I finally have it figured out. I have taken CPA exams 9 times now, and just started back in November of 2015. Taking it seriously this time and am hoping to start off 2/2 this time. Best wishes to everyone…Can't get it out of my head.

Not trying to scare anyone here, but the 2 times I didn't notice any change in difficulty I failed, and the 2 times I definitely noticed the testlets getting harder I passed. Also, the two times I passed, I felt completely certain I had failed after the exams. But thats just me, everyone has different experiences.

I don't think you guys should get too hung up on the difficulty of the testlets. Like I said, everyone is different. As you can see by my scores, I am a relatively borderline tester with these exams (I haven't failed by much, but haven't passed by much either). So maybe someone like myself who only has the mental capacity to score 80-82 to pass, unlike the people who score 90+ on all these tests, could mean that I REALLY notice the difference in difficulty. On the other hand, if you knew the material well enough to score in the 90s, you might not notice a difference in difficulty because its all easy for you.

So I don't think you can take another person's exam experience or perspective of what is medium vs difficult in gauging your own exam experience. If you've taken a couple exams like myself, I take the words of those who score in high 70 or low 80s a lot more to heart than those in the 90s because those are the people I can relate myself the most to. So get a feel for what kind of test-taker you are before taking all these other exam experiences into account.

I think we just get so worked up that we can spend all day guessing. The facts are we put in the work we cant worry what ever happens happens. Lets go enjoy the time off while we wait for the score release.

    FAR - Passed 4/2016
    AUD - Passed 11/2015
    REG - ?
    BEC - 05/28/2016

I took AUD on 1/24, and have to wait until 2/23 for the score release.

It started out Medium/Difficult.. then testlets just kept getting more difficult and tricker. During T3, I seriously just wanted to give up and was wondering why I'm even there. Then, I got a SIM that was straight out of FAR. So overall, pretty horrible experience.

I scored a 74 in November and felt like I passed walking out, definitely felt an increase in difficulty in testlets.

I know its hard to predict how one did, but I'm really hoping my recent experience means I passed. I was averaging/trending higher in my Ninja MCQs than I did the first time around when I scored a 74.

    BEC - 80! (5/2016)

Well, after my HORRIBLE experience with AUD, I'm so happy to be posting that I passed with a 77.

I sure hope this isn't how I'm expected to feel every time in order to know whether I've passed/failed! Especially after walking out felling so terrible, wondering whether I was going to ever continue this process, and almost giving up half way through Testlet 3. (testlets started medium, then just got more and more difficult), AND after getting a FAR-like SIM which I had no clue how to answer…

    Hope all others did well!!!
