AUD Sims

I failed my AUD and my weakest point was probably the Sims. A lot of you were saying that it’s better to study FAR to better understand the AUD sims and now, I can’t decide whether I should retake the AUD now before I forget all the material or to continue with my other sections and retake the AUD after the FAR exam.

    Any suggestions?

Wonny!!!! I remember you from twitter. So glad you are back to studying.

I have failed audit twice because of the sims as well. I do remember the material that was on my test so I am going to spend some time studying those specific areas.

I got a 73 the last time and do not want to start on a new section since I was so close. And to be quite honest, I took Audit in 2014 and got a 72 and then I took a year off and then came back to it and I was surprised at how much I still remembered.

    AUD - 73, 72 retake 7/2/2016
    BEC - 8/20/2016
    REG - TBD
    FAR - TBD

I am so ready for this nightmare to be over. Been at this way too long.

I would suggest trying AUD again so you dont lost that information. I do not really think FAR helped me with the AUD sims as much as everyone else says. They are most likely speaking to the fact that AUD sims have a lot of adjusting journal entries on them and FAR focus on journal entries as well. However, if you know how to reverse revenue or an accrual etc you should be ok. I would just hammer on the SIMS for AUD and try to find new ones elsewhere. In the end I would stick with AUD so you don't risk losing all the info.

    AUD - 69, 77
    REG - 74, 81
    FAR - 75!
    BEC - 71, 82

    IL candidate!

    Finally done (5/24/16)!! Yahooooooo!

@ruggercpa2b Hi! yes, I'm back to nail the CPA exam once and for all but miserably failed my first come back exam…So frustrated and stressed out…I don't know what I should do now. I know many of our fellow CPA candidates would feel the same but it's really hard to handle everything on your own without any guidelines…

it's a luck of the draw. you may or may not get a JE questions but you should at least know b/c they can ask you variation of the JE question set like if you book this entry what's the impact to ratios, NI, EPS etc. this is why it is recommended you get FAR out of the way first b/c they can always ask you a FAR question (not as in depth) in any exams.

@hokinizeu I did get JE, ratios and all the good stuffs cramped in my Sims…I see that you took AUD exams couple of times; did all the sims asked you these questions? I'm not that comfortable with these at all as I've been out of school quite some time and I don't want to risk another exam without fully understanding these FAR sections…

Agree with jessica8926, I had some FAR on my AUD simulations but most of it was basic journal entries. Some of the Sims in CPAExcel incorporated basic AJEs so I felt prepared for those. I did have one harder FAR Advanced Accounting concept on a simulation but I was lucky enough to somehow remember most of the journal entries from my college days.

I studied ratios a lot because I heard more were being incorporated into AUD but did not personally encounter any.

I to feel the AUD sims were doable without having to study FAR. They aren't asking you to record construction revenue adjustments. The one FAR related I had I felt should be basic knowledge.

But then again, maybe I got the luck of the draw.

    -----------------------------
    BEC - 77, 03/2015 (first try)
    FAR - 79, 05/2015 (second try)
    REG - 83, 12/2015 (first try)
    AUD - 84, 03/2015 (first try)

I got 99 problems but the CPA ain't one.

@wonny1108 out of my 5 attempts, i may have gotten 1 or 2 JE questions. but like i said, they may ask variation of JE (incl AJE) to ask you impact to ratios and other balances like if you make AJE, would the NI go up or down. since you understand the basics, you should be fine on FAR topics. it is much more important to understand audit topics like internal control/doing the audit/interpret the evidence. out of 4 exams, audit was the 1 exam that pushed me to dig deeper.

My advice is to stick with Audit until you pass. I was also “weak” on SIMS on my first audit try, then I worked on using Authoritative Literature for take 2. It made a big difference in my scores.

    AUD: Pass (July 2015)
    BEC: Pass (Nov 2015)
    REG: Pass (Feb 2016)
    FAR: Pass (June 2016)
