Apply for next section while waiting for scores?

It seems to me that unless you’re pretty darn sure you passed, you should wait for your score before applying to take/scheduling your next section. However, this next section, I’m going to have to wait over 3 weeks for my score, as opposed to the last section (my first) where I only waited 10 days. Because the 18-month clock is now ticking, I’m wondering if there will be any harm in waiting 3 weeks until my score is in to apply/schedule the next section? Is it really true that the Prometric slots fill up if you wait? I haven’t encountered that so far.

What do you guys do? Wait for scores or boldly charge ahead and schedule next section?

I did wait this last time for my score, but it wasn't necessarily intentional. It was only a few days and I ended up failing BEC by 1 point! I decided to continue with BEC, but normally I would not wait … it can literally be 5-6 weeks before score release and I feel it is too much time to do nothing. If you do not start studying something while you wait you are almost guaranteeing the fact that you will only test once a window. If that is your plan, then there is nothing wrong with waiting … at least you can enjoy some downtime!

You can only take a section once per window. If you wait until you know your score, it will take longer to finish all four sections. That's if you pass every time. If you fail any section now that you have your first pass, you get into the danger zone for losing credit for your first pass and having to retake, unless you're perfect from that point forward.

For example, if you test April 15, you can't retest until early July if you fail. If you wait until May 5 for your score, that gives you two months to study which is pushing the boundary of too long. On the other hand, if you sit for test 2 on April 15, take the weekend off, then stary studing for your 3rd test April 18, you can get in a good 6-7 weeks of studying before testi 3. If you need to retake the 2nd test, you still have close to a month after #3 before you're even eligible to retest #2.

My answer might not apply if other boards are different than CA, but I'll share anyways. While I'm waiting for a score I get my app in to the state so the day scores are released I can immediately choose and forge ahead – pay for the retake or what have you. That way your only down time is test day and release day – I usually take 2 weeks off to recharge. Sucks if your wait time is 4ish weeks though. This process is so awful.

If you DON'T want that much down time, what I've done in the past is just assume I passed and start on new lectures. I did this for FAR, got ~3ish chapters in, found out I didn't pass BEC, went back and banged out BEC, then restarted FAR afterwards and it was kind of nice doing the chapters a second time (this is relative) for repetition. Can't hurt right?

Prometric windows – When I didn't pass FAR I went to schedule a few days after, there was literally 1 seat the entire window. 0 seats for REG in 3 Bay Area centers – had to go to SoCal. I took the FAR seat but was so bummed with the date. But I check Prometric every day and there can be so many new ones. Just snag a crappy date then reschedule. I have never had issues with the supply of seats until this Q2 16 window.
