    Hey everyone,

I understand passing the CPA Exam is a 75, but I’m just curious. Has anyone on here used RogerCPA, or a combination of Roger/Ninja and scored well? (85-99)

I did. 95% of my studying was Roger material, 5% Ninja. I'm 4 for 4.

Hi @Swimbikerun , I passed all 4 sections within 7 months using Roger's lectures/books and Ninja MCQ. Highly recommend adding Ninja MCQ, that was my biggest key to passing sections as I felt Roger's test bank didn't include the robust statistical breakdown (weak areas, etc.) for reviewing. Good luck!!

    B - 88 (2/16)
    A - 84 (4/16)
    R - 73 (6/16), 82(7/16)
    F - 67 (1/16), 84(4/16)

    Ethics - 93

    Well, that's good to see!

I know it's not necessary to get anything above a 75, but I just noticed that many people that use his course score in the high 70's/80's. Which there's nothing wrong with that; those are respectable scores. But do you think not many people score higher just because of the way his course is laid out? …Seems like he teaches you what you need to know to pass, not much more.

Unless you're really going for the EWS Award, I wonder what the point of shooting for high 80's would be? I thought the information covered in Roger was deep enough to give me a high probability of passing, but probably not deep enough to be a true expert in any one topic. Nobody's ever asked me what any of my scores were. I had a senior at my last firm brag about his three 75's , in his eyes, “almost maximum efficiency”.

    B - 88 (2/16)
    A - 84 (4/16)
    R - 73 (6/16), 82(7/16)
    F - 67 (1/16), 84(4/16)

That's pretty much the reason. The firm I work for offers a really good bonus for it, and I have the free time for it (no major obligations outside of work). I figured if I was going to put the effort into studying for something like that, I should probably make sure I'm studying everything I need to.

i used the roger review package for all 4 sections and followed his 12 month study guide excel files to a T and the lowest score i got was a 85. i didnt supplement with any other review courses and just watched the lectures taking high level notes on concepts that didnt resonate right away for me. I then did ALL of the IPQ and kept a word doc that I would write the explanation for the correct answers for any IPQs I got wrong or didnt fully grasp. I planned my exams so I had about a week to review that word doc (usually was about 15 – 30 pages long) so focusing on that list of your weakest items was key to me IMO.

best advice i can give is to STICK TO YOUR SCHEDULE, whatever it may be. Dont procrastinate. It really is true what roger says, if you put in the time and study you will pass.

@Swimbikerun, If you are truly going for the EWS, I would recommend that you get Becker. The proportion of EWS winners who use Becker as to other review courses is unreal. I think in 2016, 52 of the 58 winners used Becker. It's also what I used, and I came very close. I don't blame that on the review course on that, I blame that on trying to take 4 exams during busy season lol.
    – If you aren't going for the EWS, a 75 is as good as a 90, so go for whatever review course you want.

I shoot for high 80s because then I can have a bad test day and still get a 75. Studying just enough for a 75 makes no sense whatsoever to me. You're just as likely to fail as you are to pass…

As for EWS award winners using Becker, I'd bet that's more the case because Becker has an enormous market share. Becker cuts deals with schools to promote their material, they have all the deals with employers. If you work for Big 4 or even mid-size they're going to pay for your Becker. That's why Becker's price is like 3x the other material, because they can, not because their material is that much better. I would never recommend Becker to anyone who is paying their own way. If your employer is paying then, yeah, go ahead.

@Tim, I agree. Becker cut a deal with my school (TTU) where I could get the whole review course for $500, so it was kind of a no-brainer lol. Yeah, I'm sure you're right that a large part of that is Becker's market share. I do wonder proportionally though what % use Becker vs. others as their primary review course. It seems to me that if 90% of EWS are using it, there is something there. To be clear though, I would never make the statement that you NEED Becker to pass. I think the exams are easily passable with Becker/Wiley/Rogers/Gleim if you put in the effort.

Fun stat – in our survey with over 1,900 responses, when asked “Which CPA Review Course is your primary source of study materials?”,

    -Becker
    -Roger
    -Wiley CPAexcel
    -NINJA
    -Gleim
    ***
    NINJA was #3 at 18.6%

Not everyone uses a “Major” course to pass 🙂

I used Roger. Passed all 4 on the first attempt, in about 9 months, with an average score of 90. I thought EWS was in reach after scoring 95 on FAR, but rushed AUD and only scored an 86; so relaxed on REG and BEC.
