I know this was one of the best ways to pass under the old testing format where it was 60% MCQ and 40% SIMs. Just wondering if anyone had any luck trying this method under the new testing format ?

Interesting question. BUt I think that you need a couple of sims right in order for you to pass since it 50/50.

That's what I did for the rounds of AUD and FAR in the last window. Finally had success for both of them.

    AUD - 56 - 68 - 61 - 9/8/16
    REG - 75
    FAR - 7/15/16
    BEC - TBD

    At 50/50, I doubt it.

I actually enjoy the document based simulations as much more akin to my 20+ years of experience, but am mild dyslexic [how I love spellchecker].
For me it just means slower read speed even with speed reading training. Thus they chew up time.

My response has been to time and accuracy drill drill drill on MCQs and try to rack up points there.
Even if you bang up a solid 50% be getting all ‘Difficult' questions and knocking them out of the park, you still need to get >= 50% of the SIMS.
I was shooting for a 90 on MCQs and 65 on SIMs.

    Clarification:
    (1) “Thus they [document based simulations] chew up time.
    (2) Even if you 100% nailed every ‘Difficult' level MCQ, that is still only 50pts of the 75 you need to pass.

Even after 400 hours of study time for FAR, I still would be happy to get 90% (or 45pts of equivalency) on the MCQs.
After taking FAR on Dec 9th, walking out to the car it hit me I'd bunged up Question 33 in Module 2 EVEN THOUGH I knew the answer they wanted.
The AICPA had released something very similar as a ‘Difficult', but it should have been an easy one for me. That 90% MCQ might be a dream.

Mcq's with some course materials like a book or videos. You must be able to put it all together. Sims give more information than mcq's. So I wouldn't just rely on the questions themselves but with a good combination of reference.

For FAR, 99% of my studying was reading textbook or just grinding out MCQs. The did a 3-4 random simulations and all the research simulations on Ninja. But, I found that the simulations were not an accurate representation of what you would see on the actual exam.

I think that it is definitely possible, since that is what I did and passed. I think that if you understand the material for FAR, you should be able to do good enough on the SIMs. Definitely make sure you get the research simulation correct (those are free points).

That's how I passed REG and BEC, I just hammered MCQ. That was my plan for FAR which I'm waiting for my score on. Its also my plan for AUD which I'm studying now.

This is how I passed all of the sections. Did about 3-4k per section. REG was the only one in the new format but still managed an 86 with the same strategy.

I passed 3 parts just studying multiple choice questions. I dont know how it is even possible to study sims.

I have relied solely on MCQ. Interesting to see on recent fails on FAR that FAR 1st attempt I was weaker on MCQ and comparable on Simulations on Performance Report while FAR 2nd attempt I was weaker on MCQ and stronger on Simulations. I hope not to see a Performance Report this next time.

I'll find out on Dec 19th.

For my 2017 Q4, spent so much time on Ninja MCQs (all sections) + some MCQs from my 2014/2015 Becker/Wiley test banks.

As for SIMs, relied heavily on going through my 2017 Ninja Sniper package & older version of Becker pdf book (2014 edition). Briefly, read my SIMs topics and practice with the AICPA sample tests, all 4 sections, the day before my actual exam.

It seemed like the closest I could prepare for the SIMs was to do AICPA sample tests, and knowing as much from the books, notes & most MCQs explanations.

    I'm praying for passing scores.

So i passed BEC and FAR with only MCQ. I took REG and AUD with only MCQ's, waiting for results. The sims in becker are nothing like the sims on the real exam so why waste your time.

if you can nail MCQ questions you should be smart enough to adapt to the sims. Or look the answers up in the AL!

I think it's definitely doable since the sims are hard to study for anyways. As long as your mcq has good explanations it's still a decent way to study for the Sims.

I wanted to just pound out mcq's but too chicken to do it. So, the formula is to do as many mcq's as possible regardless of right and wrong? I almost shut down mentally after doing mcq's and get too many wrong when I felt I've been over the materials. So what do you do to get over the shell shock after getting so many wrong?

    Tncincy,
If you are starting to shut down that would be an indication that you need to take a break. I would step away from the computer get some fresh air for 5-10 min then get back at it. If you are getting specific areas of MCQ wrong repeatedly you might want to read or watch videos for that particular area.
