    Hi All:

Do you have any tips on getting better while analyzing and calculating problems? I’ve been out of school for 5 years and currently I suck at it.

Honestly practice will help. As you work through a handful of questions you learn how to pick out the information that you need which helps cut down on the amount of time you spend reading through the questions. I know for Yaeger in BEC Cindy went over how to read a question. Her advice was to always read the very last sentence which is what the question really is. And then after that you go back and start reading the question from the beginning. Since you have already read what the question is asking, as you read through the rest of the problem you pick out what numbers you need for your calculation.

    BEC - 8/20/2016

    FAR - TBD

I am so ready for this nightmare to be over. Been at this way too long.

Yes, last sentence first is good. When you have a problem with numbers in it, ALWAYS last sentence first.

You just have to do a ton of problems. As many as possible. There are only so many ways that they can ask these problems and after you work like
2,000 of them (which is about how many I did for FAR) you'll be good at them. I'm sure if I did another 2,000 I'd be better at them than I am right now.

Yep, go straight to the question to identify what you have to solve for and then read through the problem. This can save you a minute or two on some lengthy MCQs. From my personal experience – I over-analyse the information while reading the problem, then glance over the actual question and end up doing the unnecessary multi-step calculation trying to solve for the wrong variable.
