Hello everyone,

I started using Roger a week ago today. I am 34% through the material, I’m not working and have been studying about 4-5.5 hours a day. I usually 1) watch the lectures, 2) read the book / take some notes 3) do the mcq at the end of the section.

I usually get around 70% of the mcq correct the first time around and around an 80 the second time through. (the DRS sims are another story).

There seems to be detail in the book that I try to read, and make sense of, but they do not make a ton of sense to me without context. I feel like I am wasting time writing down notes that do not make a ton of sense to me and that I likely will not look at.

Am I better of reading and understanding the majority off the textbook or doing MCQ? My only fear with the MCQ is that I do not want to start to memorize the answers.

If you've been studying around 35 hours and are 34% through the material that works out to about 100 hours total for your first pass at the material. Figure two more weeks after your first pass for review puts you at around 170 hours to prepare and that sounds about average to me.

Notes are a way of writing in your own words why something is the way it is. I like the approach of “5 why's”. If you can't put in your own words the reason for something (parroting doesn't count) – then it needs more research.

I like to say curate notes – reread the notes and one starts to see patterns, can then group similar concepts and highlight the parts that cause the most trouble.

Memorizing mcq will be futile because the questions will be completely different in my experience.

c4 – I agree with mla sounds like you are on the right pace. I am using Roger as well and did REG in about 10 weeks and BEC in about 6 weeks but I am working full time and only have about 1.5 hours a day to study with my kid and job responsibilities and all. Your scores sound good. I was trending about 70% or so on the IPQs and felt more than prepared going into and coming out of the exams.

The question you need to ask yourself is whether you are just memorizing the questions and answers or whether you are actually learning and understanding the underlying concepts.
