So i found out i failed last night with a 74. I am torn because i felt good on the MCQ but the SIMS i knew would be the deciding factor. I seem to struggle with SIMS on FAR. I have the Ninja FAR Book and CPAExcel. My question is for my retake how long should i spend on it and which material do i use?

FINALLY- its all over guys! I am in tears and elated that this 2Y and 12 attempts odyssey is over!!

    I just passed REG after failing 2 times- 70, 72, now 76

I just PASSED FAR after failing 3 times- 71,70,74 and now 77

The other two, AUD & BEC, I passed on my first try

I MUST SAY I COULDNT HAVE DONE THIS WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF ANOTHER71 users! I religiously patrolled this site for any insight into the exam but I studied extremely hard and didnt stop until I passed. I used Wiley and Roger CPA but also used the freebies from the NINJA emails, these are probably the best. Also be sure to google the web and find old AICPA questions.

I am now in the process of applying for a CALIFORNIA license.

    TAKE CARE AND BON VOYAGE!

I had the same situation taking FAR. First time I got a 72 and while I was super bummed I also was happy that I scored in that high of a range. Same thing with you – you should be proud, a 74 is very good! You basically passed and knew what you were doing but you just need to focus on 1 or 2 more areas. You probably already know what your weak areas are and your score report will show you as well. The areas you know you are weak on spend time relearning that material as if it were for the first time but there is no need for you to relearn all the material because you know a lot more than you think you do. Definitely review everything but only spend time relearning your weak spots and spend time doing shorter reviews for the areas you are confident in. If sims were your weak area you need to drive those journal entries like crazy (governmental journal entries too). Another thing – force yourself to answer WHY questions are correct especially when doing multiple choice. Do not just memorize – you really need to understand the reasoning. Also, if it's in the budget consider buying an audio course this will surely help you score more points. I restudied for about a month and passed the second time (first time I failed because I did poor in sims). You can do this, you scored a 74 so I know you can do it.

kyle – I plan to take FAR in April after 2 fails. I too feel that my weaker area is the sims. This time around I am going to focus more on the sims. The sims will teach you the material and get you familiarized with the act of completing the sims. You already know enough to pass on the MCQ front. I would say devote 1 or 2 days a week to sims and the other days to MCQ. You don't need a new course. I am going to get the NINJA book or the NINJA notes and write it out verbatim, that helps me a lot. I used Becker the last 2 times and each time I feel that it is not clicking for me.

Roger CRAM is 16 hours of lecture and can be a stand alone course (kind of to address your other question in another thread). Might be worth it, but I think you will get it next time regardless of getting a new program 😉

    Hey Kyle,

I was in the same situation. 74 on FAR. I took it at the end of August and then right at the beginning of October. So I studied for another month maybe a little less with a break I took. I just pounded Ninja MCQ until I hit the review phase and had trending score of 90+. I understand you're doing NINJA MCQ but if you haven't achieved those two feats then I suggest you should. I would supplement that with just going over journal entries. Here's a link I used:

    https://www.principlesofaccounting.com/illustrative%20entries/entrieslist.htm

I truly believe these things will get you over the hump, as it did with me.

Do you have the Ninja Notes or audio? I used those along with the Ninja MCQs. With the notes, I just copied 10 pages per day, over and over until my exam. I think I probably rewrote them five or six times. With the audio, I listened at work, while I worked out, and sometimes even while I slept lol.

I REALLY don't freakin' believe this.

I thought I did great on MCQ and bombed the SIMS. I got another 73!!! and did better on SIMS and COMPLETELY bombed MCQ. Worse in every single category. How is this even possible? When will this nightmare be over??
