    Hey Everyone!

I had a question regarding experience once I pass this test. My husband is active duty and our home of record is Michigan. We are currently living in Virginia where I am working. I am taking the CPA Test for the state of MI since who knows where we will end up. So here is where my question lies…For experience MI requires 1 year, does this have to take place in MI, or is it just 1 year needed from any state? Thank you!!

The most reliable place to get this information would Michigan board of cpa website. Every state is different. NY requires one year experience under a supervised cpa, not necessarily in NY, but it could be in any other US states. If you search your state website this information should be available.

Rosie28, Im also an active duty spouse! I had the same question when I moved to WA 10 months ago.(We were going to sent to VA too but they changed to WA in 2weeks notice !) Anyway, as far was I remember, if you are going to get experience in VA, you first need to pass the education requirement for the state if its different than MI. Then you need to send all info like educations and passed exam info to the VA. Take VA ethic test, get the experiences then license in VA.
Also, Once you get the license, sounds like its easier to change licenses to another states when you decide where you end up living.
WA is one year and we should be able to be here another 2 and half years…hopefully I can get all done before we move again…

Active duty spouse here and I ended up going with CA as my state, as my experience was gained in Australia (pre meeting my hubby). All that was required was that my experience was gained under a CPA equivalent of Australia. We are stationed in Germany and I have to fly back for the exams – the military definitely doesn't make it easy 😉

    Good luck!
