ParticipantI wish there was someone at the NASBA who looked at my AUD score and thought “Oh shit, this guy scored a 74 on his 4th try. His life is probably already shit since he’s studying for the CPA exam. I’ll just change this to a 68 so he doesn’t decide to step in front of a NJ Transit bus when he sees this.”
Also, what the F**K is the point of having a score appeal process if it never has and never will result in a score change?

Participant@Eric I am dead a** serious. She made the few people she told to swear to never mention it and/or bring up her name. She sat on the AICPA board and lives here in Chicago. She is creditable too. Even if she didn't tell us this, I still would believe its curved. How can the same person get the exact same score multiple times in a row? The chances of that happening are slim. If anything, on average, you should gain a few points with multiple retakes. I know someone that got 5 74s in a row for Audit. In all, they try to keep the passing rates low. Our scores are probably distributed on like the bell curve. If everyone pass the test easily, they would have to change to test…..hence the probable cause of test change in 2017!!!! I'm saying all this to say that no of us are crazy. More than likely we all passed the test, but didn't pass well enough. Like my college professor said, we have to get a raw score in the 80s. If you ask the BOE, AICPA, NASBA, etc., they will swear to you that it is not curved. IMHO, my professor, exam score history, and looking at everyone's trending 74s, makes me believe that it has to be true.
As a matter of fact, my experience on my past Audit exam was crazy. I had gotten 2 74s prior to this. I got my score yday and it was a 75. I am damn glad I passed, but was shocked that I got a 75. I walked out the exam with my chest out and my head high because I knew I killed that test. I flew through the multiple choice and sims and was 90% sure I got them right. I even finished with 2 hours left. I left my exam early feeling like a champ. The content I was tested felt like it was elementary. Very simple questions and sims.
Just gotta keep trying man. I know if sucks and pisses us off……especially because of the time and money. We will get passes this…..even with their stupid curve.

Participant@Crunchtime I have a love/hate relationship with these score reports.
Love- because they confirm where I thought I had trouble and it helps me to understand where I should review a little harder.
Hate- because it basically tells me that I was one or two MCQs away from a passing grade. Why do I have to be “stronger” in nearly every category just to be in the same 75-80 grouping that I'm being compared to as stronger than??? The logic is almost hilarious
FAR - 76 Oct 2015 (Becker)

Participant@crunchtime I just received my score report, as well.
When I scored a 70 the report showed Comp, Comp, Comp, Weak, Weak, Comp then Weaker for MCQ and Weaker for Sims. That was for a 70.
For the 74 the report showed Comp, Strong, Weak, Comp, Strong, Comp then Stronger MCQ and Weaker Sims. That only scored me 4 more points yet looked a hell of a lot better than the report for the 70.
I understand that you cant go by the score report but this just shows how useless it is. Either the scoring process is fu**ed up or the way they interpret the results is fu**ed up.
…still angry

Participant@crunchtime – I am very serious. Just think about it! Without even having the “inside” info from my source, I still see a red flag. How can a person sit for a test subject, with different questions in different testing windows, and manage to get a 74 multiple times? I'd say the chance of that is low, even all while the questions are weighed differently. I know people who rec'd 4 or 5 74's in a row. This whole system/scoring is graded on a bell curve. You have to pass well enough so you don't get cut short. I, myself rev'd 2 74's and passed on the third try. It seems that most of the time this occurs in “easier” or “short” subjects like AUD and BEC. You can get a raw score of 75 with barely studying. This screws it up and they curve the test! I am not asking anyone to believe me, but just thought I'd share what I was told.
It all boils down to this……………whoever receives a 74 is not dumb. Take that as a sign that you did pass, but got screwed by the system. All you have to do is tighten up a little bit to get you over the hump. I personally spent more time in the SIMS section to squeeze more points to get full credit. Spend a little more time in AL to search for answers or verify your thinking. You CAN and WILL conquer this test. YOU WILL!!

Participant74 is my biggest fear, i much rather completely bomb with a 50, for me at least mentally i will always think if i had only clicked a different button or not have second guessed myself. I dont think i could handle it. They should just have someone who says F*** it just give it to them. Also seriously whats the difference between a 75 and a 74, like one guy is qualified and the other not?

Participant@mitch, they have to cut off the pass/fail point somewhere. If they changed a pass to a 74, we would all be whining that a pass should be a 73 and so on….

ParticipantRight so i thought of that, but that should be it, 75 is cut off with one point margin. So you might be saying fine so a 74 is passing you say, and my response is that i dont know, but its just the most devastating score.

MemberI feel the same way, but reading this post makes me feel better and worse at the same time. Better because I know I'm not crazy. Worse because I am so tired of getting jerked around. 2.5 years is long enough. It's time to finish this.

ParticipantI'm literally cracking up at some of your responses. I received a 74 a few weeks ago and it was my first exam and I literally wanted to pull my hair out. 2 weeks later and I'm still a little sad about it but it's getting better. How did you all or how are yu studying for you retakes? Mine was in REG. Studying for FAR now and I don't see this getting any better.

Participant@justkeepswimming23 – It gets better with time lol. When got 74's, I just basically kept running progress test (Becker) or some form of quiz. I would NOT start over studying as if I hadn't before (IMHO)…….Just run quizzes and maybe supplement with another review to make sure you understand things. Use Ninja, AICPA, or whatever you think is appropriate. I used Becker and supplemented with cpareviewforfree.com

Participant@justkeepswimming23 – It's all how comfortable you are. For me, I usually schedule most of my exams at the end of the window so I can retake it in the first week of the next window. So 3-4 week may be ideal. Let's see……..if I sat the last week of the window and it takes about 18 days for my score, that would give me 3 weeks to take it the first week in the next window.
I would say don't really rush, but do not hesitate for more than a month. It's not like you failed terribly, you actually “passed” it. Just run quizzes of EVERYTHING and spend a little more time in areas where you thought was a little trouble. When I finished my exams, I always right down the topics they may have given me trouble jic i failed it. This way, you at least know where to focus some of your attention.

Participant@Rosco – That's smart, scheduling the exams towards the end. I took mine mid-February and got my result at the end of February so by then I had already moved on to FAR and I just decided I'll come back to it later. Everyday I regret not putting FAR down and just finishing up with REG but I'm in way too deep now. But i'll listen to your advice and do tons and tons and even more tons of questions. Thanks again 🙂

ParticipantI like scheduling my exams at the end of windows too. I do it so I only have to wait 9 days for my score, and so it falls before a holiday. I intentionally scheduled BEC and REG when I did to give myself breaks (Labor Day and Thanksgiving). The only reason I didn't with AUD is I messed up when submitting my NTS. If I have to retake FAR, I'm probably going to schedule it for the end of the 1st mini window in April, so I don't have to wait forever for my score. I'm also afraid if I don't give myself an aggressive deadline, that my brain will find excuses to put it off. Best of luck to everyone tonight!
