72 on Far – Strategy moving forward

Hey guys just looking for some confirmation on my strategy.

I learned on the Sept 9th that I only scored a 72 on far which i took on Aug 20th.

In the between time I picked up the materials for Auditing and started studying for that but have since dropped that and got back on the Far material after having learned I haven’t passed.

I got stronger on my multiple choice. And weaker on my simulations which signals to me that I bombed my simulations hard enough to outweigh how well I did on the MC. The sims were hard although I left with the feeling I could have figured them out with more time and less pressure.

I admit I didn’t practice simulations all that much. Based on that I was think that this time I would study the simulations harder this time around, and continue attacking the multiple choice. As well as go back and study my weaker subject areas.

I am also thinking I won’t need as much time to prepare again. Thinking of retaking it in first or second week of October.

This seems like a bit of a ramble just wanted to get some opinions on how I am attacking this.

im waiting on my score for FAR retake and i was wondering lately what would happen if i scored stronger on mc and weaker on sim this time. from your post i guess we have to get at least comparable on both then… strong mc wont carry sims?

good job on getting the stronger mc you must have alot of the material down. the first time i took FAR i got weaker in the MC and comparable in the SIMS and got a 74. so we gotta face that sims really matter

how do you do on time? maybe pace yourself between MC testlets. and make sure to leave 1hr 30min~45min for sims so you feel less pressure.

From the AICPA explanation, I interpreted it as comparable being based on the candidates that score from 75-80; Therefore, weaker could mean anywhere between 0 to 74. It is definitely possible to pass with a weaker simulation, in fact when I got a 74, I had comparable mcqs and weaker sims.

@Luna – If I recall correctly, I think I only gave myself an hour and 10 minutes. I think that is good advice Luna in regards to time. I definitely was wanting for more time. I wasn't really given an easy Sim in the test booklet either, except maybe the research question. I learned that sitting for this test and being 100% for the whole 4 hours and 30 minutes is no small task.

@Loo – I definitely did not feel good on the sims. And even immediately after I had thoughts of a lot of things I would have liked to go back to reconsider and adjust.

From your replis, I got to understand more the situation. You have not practiced for SIMS; therefore, you have to figure it out as you go, and that is why having 1 hour and 10 minutes is not enough. You do not really need to practice sims, in fact, it is really hard to prepare for those, so figuring things out as you go is most likely the best approach. So what I suggest you doing is to go into prometrics like if you were ready to war! Try to knock the first testlet in 30 minutes, and if you were to get harder testlets for the second and third, then try to knock them at 40 min each. If you get a long question that you are not very familiar with, flag it and save it for later. If you finished the testlet and you notice you are running a bit late on those 40 mins, I would recommend you to toss an educated guess in those flagged questions and move on. I considered to have gotten easy sims in my FAR exam, but I still had to spend a full 2 hours.
