I have the next two days off (Sun & Mon) to study all day. I am testing Tuesday and at this point I don’t know how to feel. What is the best way to approach trying to get the material to stick? I have been doing MCQs, reviewing notes and watching lectures. The problem is that I get so many MCQs wrong that I am starting to get discouraged. It’s not all bad but I was hoping at this point in the studying journey, I’d be scoring in the 80’s. This is not my mentality but I am so drained and I just want to grind it out these next two days while being as efficient as possible. I’ve been studying since April 4th so I must be ready… I hope so! Advice and encouragement is welcomed.

If I knew what I know now, I would have reviewed government, not-for-profit, and IFRS more. Hopefully Gleim gives you a better summary of the IFRS/GAAP differences than CPAExcel does. CPAExcel just had a little blurb at the end of many of the 226 mini-lessons on the differences. I did do the IFRS questions that CPA Review for Free has. That helped a little bit.

In government and not-for-profit they seem to really want to check if you know the financial statements, the format of those statements, which financial statements are a requirement, and what are the major accounts named. It all became a blur for me because there are so many different statements. CPAExcel seemed to not offer many MCQs for government and not-for-profit and the mini-lessons read like laundry lists.

Whatever you do, don't do “Missed Last Time Seen” Ninja MCQs. I did that the day before the exam for a couple hours and it wasn't very helpful.

Before my 2nd FAR attempt I focused more on Sims and found it to be extremely valuable. The MCQ are great for pointing out the little details and factoids that might trip you up on exam day but Sims are 40% of your score and helped me tie a lot of the concepts together. It's a great time to go back through and re-watch some of the lectures you're having trouble with and work specific topics.

    B - 88 (2/16)
    A - 84 (4/16)
    R - 73 (6/16), 82(7/16)
    F - 67 (1/16), 84(4/16)

    Ethics - 93

Hammer MCQs and do extra review around journal entries relating to your weak areas and IFRS, gov't and NFP. These are easy points if you hammer them and cram prior to your exam.

IMO from my 2 experiences with FAR, it's 75% preparation and 25% luck on not getting hosed on the SIMS. My first fail was lack of prep (I tend to be a very good test taker and thought I'd be able to skate by). My second fail was due to getting completely unlucky with getting several SIMS on an area that isn't supposed to be THAT highly tested. Well it was, and my score report indicated I did well on MCQs but those SIMS destroyed me.

    BEC - 80
    FAR - 81 (third attempt)
AUD - waiting for score 8/23
REG - 09/08/2016 - going to cram and wing it

    OH Ethics - Completed
