.333 credits shy to sit for the CPA… what to do?

My friend applied to sit for the CPA exam but was rejected because he is .333 credits short of meeting the 24 semester credit requirement in the Accounting Study area. Has anyone been in a similar situation? I’m trying to find the quickest, easiest course that would meet the requirement! Any suggestions would be appreciated.

An online, self-paced course from an accredited university will probably be the quickest option. As an example (which you'll see posted often on here 🙂 ) Louisiana State University has courses which are self-paced so can be as short as 8 weeks or as long as 6 months. Their website is for their online courses is https://is.lsu.edu/home.asp?level=CO&online=0&nid=101

Other schools probably offer similar options; the key is one that's self-paced so that you don't have to wait for a 12 or 16 week semester to complete.

LSU (Distance learning) Fraud Auditing and Forensic Accounting. It's reasonably priced too and applying is really easy.

Does your friend have ANY sort of prior class that he can petition had some sort of accounting relevance? I had a friend who sat for the exams, passed, and was 2 units short of something to be licensed and he dug into his prior classes, printed out class descriptions, and highlighted the word ETHICS or the sort, and the board accepted. If you think your friend has a math class or SOMETHING that has a helpful class description it's worth taking a look and applying. This .33 thing is ludicrous.

I know it seems like our Boards are ruthless and cruel, but I wouldn't be surprised if your friend submitted something slightly off base, and a human saw it and granted it anyways because .33 is silly. Just my 2 cents. Also have to consider how long it would take the board to review… which is a while 🙂

Use the Excel ROUND Function to round up to the nearest whole number and you will get to 24.

Skynet- Ha! Unfortunately, nobody at the California Board of Accountancy knows how to use the Round function.

I've been dealing with them since JAN so you are not alone.

I have over 30 credit hours in accounting..they wouldnt count My financial or any of the lab work..told me I should be good to go in March as long as I did a COE..sent that in and they sent me a rejection letter saying I need another credit..

My state requires 24..Ive sent them 4 unhappy emails asking for why the incompetance.. and have been ignored ever since..

For the classes I second doing one online at a CC..cost you about 3-400 bucks.
