Participanti never said luck has nothing to do with it….you need to chill out a bit dude.
it's possible to only study certain areas and get “lucky” by only getting tested heavily in those areas and lightly in the areas you didn't study for. My point, and others on this thread have echoed it as well…is that its a losing proposition to be banking on luck to pass these things. Like I said, study hard, study thoroughly, and take banking on luck out of the equation.
If you are going to study 50% of the material and hope you can somehow pass you are going to run into plenty of problems. And the victim mentality isnt a good look.
Like I said, comparing the exams to playing the lottery is just silly, I hope you can see that.

Participant@TommyTheCat I wouldn't pay any attention to him. All he does is complain on this forum and finds excuses for everything

ParticipantYes, I fully agree with you @tommythecat. You really can't believe luck is a factor when trying to pass this exam. If you are asked questions that you can't confidently answer and just hoping you get questions on topics you are confident on then you approaching the exams all wrong.
I, at first, was intimidated that my chances of passing these exams were low after seeing the past pass rates. But I just studied hard and thoroughly understood what I learned. I ended up passing all sections in 5 months and at the end I realized that the work a person puts in will be reflected in the grade they receive. Luck has nothing to do with it. Side note, I also have a full time job. So I did not dedicate my total life to study, but instead found good times for me to study using time management.
As tommythecat said, if you only study 50% of the materials, you will run into a lot problems trying to pass these exams.

ParticipantHey all future CPAs,please add some values to this forum by helping each other.Say whatever you feel will help or may help to pass the.Yeah sometimes we can rant and just add humor in case of boredom.
Last week I asked a trivia question about use of calculator and @Anthony seriously answered that question,it was a great help to me.I just can't believe I was wasting so much time due to calculator.
Now coming back to luck ,yes it's factor for sure ,some people gets easy sims and some people get hard sims but again you have no control over it.You just can't skip a chapter and pray let me be lucky.
Yes we have our own complain but hey within these rules people are passing and passing better than old format exam.September 29, 2017 at 2:21 pm #1640659cleethree
ParticipantYes, you're right @WannaFree. We should try to help and support each other as we are all trying to reach the same goal and not argue over petty things.
I just feel that at times we put these exams on a pedestal and try to derive to various reasons as to why some pass, some fail, some take longer to finish the exams than others, etc., which doesn't exactly dictate how one individual will go through these exams. Everyone CPA exams experience will be different.
With that said, I think we should mainly focus on provide support and guidance to make passing these exams a little more easier for everyone in the community.

Participant@cleethree ,yes I agree with you that it's really worth asking why someone gets less time , I believe those who get 70 know the stuff but somehow missed some points here and there ,may be 3 MCQ which they know the topic but got confused etc.

ParticipantHi there,
I missed FAR by 2 points in the 3Q and i'm scheduled to retake in the 4Q.
Now I'm freaking out with the pass rates.
Anyone know why there is a drop off in the 4Q?
Exhaustion?September 29, 2017 at 3:29 pm #1640707Anthony
ParticipantHoliday time and new grads started to work is probably the biggest attribute to the drop off. Honestly, the drop off isn't THAT big and sounds like nothing more than an overreaction. It's still a 40%ish pass rate. I dunno why people make sound like some sort of a big game changer or impossible to pass at Q4.

Participant@iamstrong
Don't worry about the Q4 dip in passing rates. I think the general consensus is it's due to the holidays. You only failed by two points so your close. You just need to make sure you address your weak areas while studying for your retake and you should be fine. My strategy while studying was to focus on my weaknesses and not perfect my strengths. I never scored crazy high but I also never came that close to failing either.

ParticipantThanks Anthony and CPAcandidate3.
I've taken FAR a few times already and I'm so sick of it.
My parents even said a prayer!I'm going through all the NINJA MCQ again, taking notes, etc. in order of topic.
Once i go through everything, do a random set of 30 plus SIMS.
Then rewrite and kick FAR – FAR FAR Away. You guys are awesome

Tommy, don't go saying “i never said luck has nothing to do with it….you need to chill out a bit dude.” …'cause the record shows otherwise.
@CPACandidate3 September 29, 2017 at 2:45 pm: “Passing is 100% on you and your fails are 100% on you.”
I have a Candidate Diagnostic Performance Report that states:
“As you review your performance, keep in mind that there is some imprecision in all assessments, especially when results are based on a smaller number of test questions. Your examination performance could differ from one day to the next, depending on a variety of factors.”
Read: Luck's got something to do with it, dude!
And passing depends on a variety of factors; one should not blame oneself “100%.”Also, @kdawg22 – please stop bullying Shawn!
xoxo, hope that helps.

Participant@Choco415 comes out swinging.
I wasnt gonna enter into this bickering, but screw it I've been drinking all day. I won't agree or disagree with anybody but I feel that any time spent worrying about what pass rates are highest/lowest when would be better spent just studying for the exams in the first place. While there will always be an element of luck, I feel it is extremely insignificant.September 30, 2017 at 8:08 am #1640920CPAcandidate3
ParticipantI'm not trying to bully him. If I was having those thoughts I think it would have deterred me from studying because why study hard for something that is ultimately out of your control?
I and others have already acknowledged a small element of luck can play into it. From what I understand graders are looking for points to add not take away. So we are really talking about someone who failed and the consistency of points being added to change it to a pass. Sorry I think someone should take ownership for that first part and not claim victim to the second part.
If it makes them feel better they can just just remove the inconsistent variable and know they 100% failed according to the computer grading which is consistent.
