I have a hard time with rote memorization and usually scored higher on the TBS than I did on the MCQ. Are we really convinced that the 2017 exam is harder?

I have a harder time with TBS for sure, so for those of us who do much better on MCQs, it probably will be yes.
Although I haven't read the exact changes yet. What are the TBS' turning in to?

    REG - ('11) 71, ('12) 71 - Becker
    AUD - TBD
    BEC - TBD
    FAR - ('16) 54 - Becker

yea m8, it may be harder. theyre reducing the total # of MCQs and increasing the TBS for each section. the wieghted score wont be 60/40, it's going to be 50/50. theyre also going to create a new TBS called review document section.

I've heard that translates into my “real world” experience or problems. I have no idea what that means but it may not be bad for all of us? No clue though.

    FAR - ('16) 54 - Becker

You have a good point Blackwerth. I enjoy doing TBS more than mc, so that might be a nice change.

    FAR: 91 July 2015
    AUD: 83 October 2015
    REG: 81 January 2016
    BEC: 83 February 2016

But on the other hand, if you have absolutely no clue what the answer is, with MC you could use a process of limitation and have a chance at selecting the correct answer.

With TBS, that's not always the case. Often times you have to type in the answer. Yes, sometimes, there's a pick list of answer choices (you could use a process of elimination for that.) But that's risky if you end up doing that for 50% of your test.

I took the AICPA practice exam/tutorial for FAR this weekend and a DRS was already included. It was interesting. The changes that was the hardest for me was actually what to omit! I thought I would mention it because I took the practice before my last FAR attempt and it was interesting to see it already starting to update and hint at what is coming.

So if I am planning to take FAR in May 2016 and AUD in Feb 2016, should I study the pre-2016 way or the 2017 way?!?!?

If we look at the accounting trends, the Tax Code is getting longer and longer, the GAAP (and IFRS) codification is getting longer and longer, and the auditing standards likewise. Everything is getting more complicated every year, to the point of becoming incomprehensible.

Does anyone think that the CPA test would be made easier to account for this, or more complicated?

I would study as if the world will end on Jan 2017 🙂

Think of it like that Mayan Calendar prediction.
