What would be better to fulfill the credits requirement? An MBA or general credits? I only have 126 credits right now.

Eventually looking to move out of accounting later on in life I think even though I’ve only been working for a little over a year and half. I just recently finished my last exam in late September and have just been living since.

Currently I have fulfilled the work experience requirement, passed the exams, and also will have the ethics course done in the next two weeks (firm sponsored).

    AUD – 75
    BEC – 77
    FAR – 78
    REG – 81

MBA if you can get into a top business school, otherwise an MBA is not really that worth it for what it costs (trust me, I have an MBA). If you are going to go to a second tier B-School, you should just go get the extra general credits.

    Weigh the pros vs cons.
    Biggest factors would be cost.
When I went to a local school to inquire about a MS in Tax, or an MBA, I found out they did not offer an MS for Tax, only an MBA with a focus on public accountancy, and they would not accept all my credits. They determined I would need an additional 36 credits for the MBA at roughly $500 per credit, plus fees, books etc.
I am at the point in my career where I solely do Tax work, and have no intention to change that. I opted not to pursue the MBA.

If you plan to move out of accounting eventually, then an MBA may provide you some additional benefits, but it seems to me that many many people have an MBA now, so it's not quite the step up that it once was.

While you are at it, weigh the cost difference between an MBA and a JD, just for laughs.

@r00shine I was considering a Top 50 school, I have heard mixed opinions as well if its not a higher level/ top tier school then its not best idea.

@ReckedRacing biggest factor for sure right now is cost. The school I was looking at is offering a MBA in Professional Accountancy, it is about 56 credits and is a 14 month program. I would be able to waive up to 12 credits and get a 2nd concentration (why it sounds so enticing to me) vs. a 2 year program in Finance, Supply Chain Mgt, etc, etc.

I believe whether it's now or later, I will need to go back to school to advance myself. So just like the CPA Exam, I rather get it out of the way now.

Local community college: $506.75 per 3 credits
MBA Program: Around $1,000 per credit
