Does anyone on this forum have any experience working a part time second job? Is there any accounting work that can be done part time for a small mom and pop company or even taxes? I do not have experience in taxes aside from doing my own lol

Always a need for quickbooks bookkeepers, granted it doens't pay the big bucks (I get $30/h) but have a few small businesses that I do books for on the side.

How does one get started and balance your full time job?

I'd start with the quickbooks proadvisor training particularly if you aren't using quickbooks regularly (not sure if you've received your license yet or its pending but tons of CPE credits for your future renewal!) Then I just looked on craigslist for people advertising for part time bookkeepers, gave them my elevator speech about how I'm quickbooks proadvisor certified, and bring more to the table than they typical bookkeeper they are seeking including but not limited to being faster than a traditional bookkeeper (giving the example of a client whose books hadn't been properly recorded in over a year and I got it entirely caught up in 4 weeks time).

As for managing it, its pretty much like studying for the exam, I do it from home in my own time, two nights a week after work for a few hours then Sunday afternoon. My biggest client right now likes face time so I take a half day at my regular job once a month and trot into the city to let him pretend that he knows what I'm doing for him and twice a year I go meet with his tax CPA to review.
