    Hi everyone,
I passed FAR with a 77 and my friend passed it with a 87. My friend kept asking my why I studied a lot (more than 200 hours) and got low score (77). How should I answer that question ? She told me that 77 means I almost failed and didn’t study efficiently.

    Thanks everyone.
FAR was my first CPA exam so I didn't know how much is “over-study” or “under-study”. I studied more than 200 hours. My friend said that 77 means I passed it because of luck.
Anyway, I can't say how much appreciative I am for people in this forum who shared the experience and encouragement.
    3 more to go.

On the contrary…the people who score the lowest, but north of 74 are the true geniuses. They've figured out the exact amount they need to study to pass. That is an art.

Do you think 120-130 hours for BEC and 150-180 hours for REG are good ? Well, I guessed the script would be: If I pass both, my friend will say: ” Those are easy sections.” If I fail, it would be:” They are easy. Why did you study a lot and still fail ?”
I really don't know how much study is “too much” ?

Why are you basing how much you study off your friend, theyre a jackass. No matter how much you studied, you got the result. 77 is damn good. If they say those things id tell em to take their extra ten points and shove 'em

Plenty of bright people around me who've passed the exam told me they easily and effortlessly passed by studying smart, meaning doing just enough to pass. If you're really into a topic, great, go ahead, but you can do that in your free time. For the CPA, scores 75 and above are seen as equal.

Ashley Zeng: with friends like those, who needs friends? lol! Basically half the exams result in an F, you should be proud of putting the time and effort into giving this a shot

For the number of study hours it really depends. I studied about 20-30 hours more than the “recommended” amount for each exam “just in case” and got low 80s on all my exams, except AUD where I scored a 90 but I have no idea how.

There's no such at “too much” – you study as much as you need to study to get a passing score – which is a 75. some people can achieve that in 1 day. other people need 1 year. it doesn't matter.

your “friend” sounds like a turd. quit talking to her about the CPA.

Do you need why 77 or does the friend need to know. The answer depends upong who needs to know…therefore, accept the pass and don't become co-dependent. Next the friend will start the whose better cpa war.

    It begins with a 75

Is this a cultural thing maybe. I remember taking a precalculus class at community college and we had to pass up our quizzes down the row when time was up. There were 3 Chinese guys that were always excitedly chatting with each other. One time I saw them looking at my quiz and laughing at it. Was a bit put off by that.
