Who actually likes accounting?

Out of curiosity who is in accounting for the fun or is it for the job prospects? I personally love reading FASB pronouncements and IRS cases, and when a balance sheet balances; that’s my Jenna Jameson. Okay, that may be a little extreme, but are there any other people like me?

Of course I have other hobbies; but I could almost consider accounting a hobby

It depends, for me I really like auditing and financial presentation and preparation of the financials. But being down in the trenches doing, A/R,A/P… BLOWS and if I was stuck doing that I would change professions.

    Yes I really enjoy it.

I enjoy things coming together. I enjoy seeing how all the financial statements come together and relate to one another. I love how the financial statements are just one long algebraic equation. It is also great to be held in such high regard by our peers because of what we know. We may find it simple, but a wide variety of the population thinks we're brainiacs.

    I love Excel.

I did A/R, A/P, etc in my last job… in my new job I am doing very similar stuff, HOWEVER, I can't complain cus it's super easy so I can save my brain power for studying. I don't think I could do advanced stuff whilst studying even though I think my mgr is gonna start me on stuff soon. Nooooo!

I love Excel too! I do everything in Excel (even stuff for home).

I do a lot of daily entries at my job, but I also help with the year-end close and help set up for the audit (which is next week, ugh!). As much as I HATE running around getting everything together, I love it too. I'm such an OCD freak and love getting all the binders put together and compiling all of the account information. Once the audit is over and I go back to my normal routine, I'm going to feel bored. But my desk is a disaster lately, so I'm itching to organize.

I like my job. I'd like to get more into the financial statements, but in time I'll get there!

    F - *76*(08/'13)-Becker & NINJA - "server upgrade" survivor
    B - 60('11); *82*(10/'13) -Becker & NINA

    DONE, DONE, AND DONE.

I love accounting too. I like doing the workpapers for an audit. And I also like the fraud aspect of accounting. My MBA is in Forensic Accounting. My friends pick on me because I like fraud.

I've heard many times that you either love accounting or hate it and there are very few standing on middle ground. I happen to love it.

Clarissa: Where did you get your degree in Forensics? I have always been interested in that field.

@Baxter – I did it online so that I can continue to work full time while doing it. But New England College, and I think it's a really great program. The work is not that easy, but it is a Master's program, so it shouldn't be as easy as an undergrad program. There's also a university in Florida that does it online as well. I can't remember the name now. I think I just did a general google search to find what I was looking for and found some schools that really stuck out to me.

I love accounting. There is always something new to learn or a different type of transaction. There is no better feeling than when an account reconciles or the financial statements tie. Or that sweet feeling after an audit is complete or the tax returns are filed (I'm in private accounting).
