    Just curious…

Exam application fees, rescheduling fees, cancelling fees, etc, where does it go? Aren’t the AICPA and NASBA basically non-profit organizations?

I understand there is the Elijah Watt Sells award, but if you look at the number of those who received this award and how many ppl actually took the exam in a year, you’ll notice the rewards are a very small percentage of all those exam fees (determined by the published number of ppl who took the exam).

Does Prometric eat most of it up? Are those employed by AICPA and NASBA, Prometric stockholders? Lol

@jgh Before this entire process, I was loathing taking this exam on a computer because I like to underline key words in questions. I suggested to my friends that this exam be administered on iPads with styluses haha. Imagine!

The AICPA posted a loss?? That's weird, and not much of a recommendation lol.

Most of your exam fees go to the states. They are typically set by statute (like Louisiana) or by the respective licensing board.

I know times change, technology, etc but it wasn't that long ago that it cost $150 to sit for the entire exam. Now the cost is about $1,075. That is a huge jump.

    FAR- 85 I'm DONE!
    BEC- 75
    REG- 60,60,75
    AUD- 74,74,83

CPAExcel used for BEC, AUD, REG
Exam Matrix used for FAR plus NINJA Blitz, cpareviewforfree and a little CPAExcel

@NotaQuitter, Time value of money $150 in 1985 is $1075 in 2013. Well close enough I might need to pull up the tables and also take inflation into consideration. But it looks about right. We are on track. I would worry if in 2016 it jumped to $10k.

As Eliabraham mentioned, the AICPA doesn't pay anything for the EWS award…maybe a little bit for a plaque or something. Some of the Big 4 firms pay an extra bonus, but in terms of the AICPA's expenses related to the EWS award, they are a pretty negligible (and understandably/rightfully so) portion of the $4 million expenses.
