Is anyone else just a little fed up with a library not really being a library anymore? I come to the library to study because it is supposed to be LESS distracting and MORE quiet than my own home. Yet, everytime I come to the library there is some kind of Chess tournament, book sale, kids running around playing tag, etc. etc.
Maybe I’m a little “old” at the age of 35 but I remember a time from my childhood when a library was a “whisper only” environment and people actually came to read books in peace. Now it seems as if there are more people screwing around on Facebook on the library computers and checking out dvd’s by the dozens while the books sit on the shelves collecting dust. Which, now comes my: “kids today are so screwed up” line, which really makes me seem old.
Perhaps libraries should implement a rule: If you want to check out The Expendables 2, you can only do it after providing a book report on Hemingway’s “A Farewell to Arms.” If you want to check out the new Twilight movie, you can only do it after a synopsis on Bram Stoker’s “Dracula.” You get the idea.
Anyhow Another71 peeps. Thanks for letting me rant. It’s Saturday and I came to the library to read about Audit Procedures by Transaction Cycles and I have all this noise going on around me, I just needed to vent. Back to the grindstone.
