it's hard to equate GPAs from different schools – some schools have a lot of grade inflation.

my GPA was 3.8 in undergrad, but It was top 4% of my class (magna cum laude)

I'll rock the boat. Made a 2.42 after 6 years of college. Played around too much the first 2 years and destroyed my GPA until I became serious, switched to accounting, and began to bust my butt in year 3. I also worked all through college 30-35 hours a week while taking 15-18 hours of classes. Then around year 4 I was diagnosed with narcolepsy so that added to the bad grades prior to being diagnosed. But I persevered and graduated with more than enough credits to sit for the CPA. Going to interviews was a nightmare though. I had a total of 27 interviews over 2 years and I would cringe each time they would ask for transcripts. Finally, in march of this year I began working as an auditor for the state. Pay is decent, benefits are amazing, and I work from home! Couldn't ask for a better setting to study for the CPA. We'll see how it works with FAR in a couple weeks.

I'm not going to make excesses but I was lazy in college. I never really studied. What motivated me to get my accounting degree was the promise to be promoted to senior accountant. What is motivating me now to get my CPA is being lied to and not getting that promotion.

Easily got a Big 4 Internship in undergrad. I did have a stacked resume with clubs, extracurriculars, fraternity, etc. I spent so much time doing other stuff, I never even cared about my GPA

    Bec-76 (7/14)
    Aud-81 (8/14)
    Reg-82 (7/15)
    Far- 82 (10/15)

Moral of the story, don't do your CPA while working in Big 4 Public Accounting.

Don't let these scores skew your perceptions of me…I had to work my ass off for them. I am not one of those naturally smart people and my teachers made me earn them.

A 2.5 GPA from Georgia Tech or Berkeley would be the equivalent of a 3.80 from a University that is not ranked as first tier. But at the same time, the individual who got a 3.9 from an average university could have also gotten a high GPA in a first tier University. Very hard to determine a whole lot by GPA.
