Anyone have ideas other than what the recruiters and recruiting videos fill you with? 🙂

In college the FBI was always my dream job, however I did a 6 month internship at my current company, then 2 years later they offered me a job.. and couldn’t beat the salary work/life balance. Plus, I met my husband who is in law enforcement- so I guess I decided to live vicariously through him and get my “justice” fix. 🙂

Anyway, just checked out their website and it was interesting to see this:

Work Experience Waivers:

Certain specified experiences and/or abilities waive the three year full-time work experience requirement. NOTE: Your ability to meet the requirements of a waiver does not guarantee that you will be deemed “Most Competitive”.

Applicants with a degree in Computer Science, Information Technology and/or a Juris Doctorate (J.D.)

1. Certified Public Accountants (CPAs)

2. Foreign language speakers who have scored a three (3) or higher on an FBI Language Test

3. Former FBI Honors Interns with a 3.0 cumulative undergraduate GPA (FBI Volunteer Interns from 2011 to Present)

4. Applicants with advanced degrees (master’s and/or doctorate) require two (2) years of full-time work experience

Interesting timing as I think I just read up on that on Tuesday. Did you take a look at the supplementary questions? If you answer yes to being a CPA, they have a boatload of questions about your experience. While the waiver is pretty cool, I think they'll often look for a specific skillset and experience to seriously consider a person. I do recall hearing that the FBI hires a surprising amount of experienced CPAs, though. I was surprised by their drug policy stating that as far as they're concerned when it comes to marijuana, if you haven't used it in the last 3 years, you're good to go lol

It's something I'm interested in, but with mild loss of hearing, I doubt I'd be able to pass their hearing examination. Wouldn't be the first time I was denied consideration for a career I wanted due to that… so frustrating. I'm only in my mid-20's, damn it!

If your interested in the agent position they deff would look to see if you have relevant exerience – working on fraud cases or maybe even audit – they use cpa's who are interested in becoming forensic accountants to help with the complicated white collar crime. Although Agents fill less than 50% of the workforce, the rest are support staff and intelligence analysts so idk if you would get your justice fix there. I've read a few books and done a fair amount of research bc I plan on applying to FBI in three years when I'll have CPA and a few years working on fraud cases.

They pay on the GS-scale, so depends what position and where you start, check out usajobs.gov for the scale and that's also where fed gov posts all job openings.

Is that saying those waivers are only available for people w/ a Computer Science or IT degrees, or Lawyers?

Example: I have an accounting degree, so I am ineligible for the CPA waiver, but a CPA who is also a lawyer and/or has a computer science or IT degree is.

Regardless, I'd rather make more money and not get shot at.
