I don’t know if all is bothering me today but talking o a friend, he said this stuff was “easy”. Of course he has other designation but not this one.
Why people talk about things without thinking?
I’m in the bad mood today…

I think for some individuals who just finished their Bachelors in Accounting, the CPA is not a hard exam. If they can do it in 6 months without working, then this exam is not hard for them at all. For the rest of the individuals who finished their Bachelors back in 2001 or earlier then it becomes a challenge. And If on top of that, you have a family and a Full time job then it turns into an exam that can take you from 12 months to 24 months to complete. The old pencil and paper exam 4 parts in two days was a beast even for the recent graduates.

December 11, 2013 at 7:32 pm #494931zoctomanMemberI absolutely hate it when people say “this is easy”. I've heard people say stuff like this all too much. You know I used to be in med school and I took dozens of tests before realizing it wasn't for me. I then started my masters of accounting, and people would say, “oh, this must be easy compared to med school.” In all honesty, some accounting tests were way harder for me than med school tests. “Easy” is a relative term, and it is horrible to make blanket statements about something like the cpa exam being easy.
I tend to like exams, and studying comes natural to me. However, I am hopeless when it comes to so many facets of life. I sure wouldn't want someone to tell me how “easy” it is to brew a pot of coffee, and I surely won't say that cpa exams are easy!

It's another thing to say it to a CPA candidate.
Along the same vein:

December 11, 2013 at 8:44 pm #494935AnonymousInactiveWell, I don't think I would say anything except, “that's great!”. I didn't think the exam was hard, but I personally wouldn't ever voice that to other people (I do realize the irony here, but I just mean outside of a forum thread on the topic) because you never know what people struggle with on a personal level and my goal (anyone's goal) should never be to belittle someone or make someone feel bad about themselves for the things they struggle with.
For some people, public speaking is a fear worse than death. I'm sure they would want to punch you in the face if you went up to them before they were about to go give a speech to 200 people and said, “Ehh, piece of cake! You'll be fine…nothing easier than talking to a crowd of people!”. Some people are insecure and validate their achievements through other people (i.e., telling you about it and hoping for praise/shock/awe/etc).
I wouldn't pay them too much mind. Whatever their reason, you never know what they struggle with on a personal level that you may take for granted. For example, you may have had an amazing childhood…loving mother, father, happy home, good marriage, the whole nine; whereas, perhaps they came from divorced parents/abusive family, can't find a stable relationship, wife left/took the kids/had an affair, etc. So whenever someone talks smack about the exam and it makes you feel bad about yourself or what you're trying to do, just realize that everyone has their demons and maybe that one shred of glory is how they feign confidence on a daily basis; just shrug it off and think about all the amazing things in your life that might not come easy to other people. Just food for thought; a different perspective perhaps.
In any case, good luck! π

December 12, 2013 at 2:37 am #494886AnonymousInactive@BaxterCPA wow, looks like you married a gentleman!! congratulations!
@gt5717 hahaa that was a good one! very good comment.
@BobRossfan71 At some point I thought what say : why he is saying this? probably inside of him, he is insecure about his CMA designation and always wanted to be a CPA and he just couldnt! π HA!!!
By the way, and I don't want to offend any one here, but are the CMAs required in the job market like the CPAs??
I barely see job adds with CMA titles, but probably I'm not in the right places….
Well, who knows…
