I thought this would be an interesting thread to create and hear people’s different stories. When did you feel like you turned the corner? When did you almost quit? Who/what made you push through?

I’ll never forget where exactly I was and at what time I found out I failed FAR. I was so broken I thought there was no way I could relearn all that material again. The thought of going through that much stuff again just made me want to give up. I got back at it and now I’m a week away from taking my last exam hopefully ever.

I started studying before I got to public and was so determined to be a CPA. Once I started public, I was still determined to get my CPA. I took BEC and got a 73. At that point I was beginning to hate public (6 months in) so I quit studying. I convinced myself that the CPA exam didn't mean anything even in public accounting. So 4 months after failing BEC, I told myself I am not a quitter. I jumped back in the saddle and took audit. Got a 71. Then I was really done with the CPA. Then I promoted to Senior so I started studying again. Took BEC again got a 74. I literally wanted to cry. That was in 2013. I told myself that I would go all in one more time. Started studying during busy season as a senior. Took BEC in April of 2014 and got a 81, then took audit and got a 79. Making progress. I rushed REG and FAR because I wanted to take all 4 exams in 2 windows, got a 69 on REG and a 66 on FAR. Now I am determined to pass these last two before my others expire.

I thought the first was the hardest and most stressful, the second was pretty bad too. But once I got around to the 3rd, 4th and 5th tries the Stockholm Syndrome was in full effect and studying was just what I was doing with my life, it just felt normal. Just passing the first one was a big boost – already 25% there, even if I did fail #2. I'll admit that it got a lot harder once I started working and studying at the same time.

    FAR: 85
    AUD: 78
    REG: 84
    BEC: 89

I really turned it around when my wife said she wasn't going to put out and would in fact leave me for a “real man” if I even thought about quitting again.

I nailed the next couple of tests and right after celebrating that last pass she packed up the kids and took off to Austria.

Seriously though, I couldn't stand extra time being away from wife/kid and I just let ‘er rip on BEC and FAR and passed them both.

    FAR- (2) 64, (5)74, (7)83 (Over achiever!)

So you nailed the tests then you nailed her?

My turning point was failing AUD the 2nd time. It was my fourth fail and had only one pass at that point. I started a new job that allowed me time to study when it was slow, and ended with 3 passes and just one more failing score. I was 4/9 overall.
