    Hey guys,

I am fired up to knock out some serious studying today, but I can barely keep my eyes open!

Last night I went to bed about 9pm……my 8 month old son got up at 11:30pm, I fed him, then he got up at 3:30am, I fed him, then my alarm went off at it’s usual 6:30am.

My wife usually helps out or does it entirely depending on the situation, but she’s sick right now. So, basically I got 8.5 hours of sleep if you figure the time it took to get up and feed my son twice, and I should be rested, but for some reason I feel like I am going to start drooling!!!!…….what do you guys do if you are tired and eager to knock out some study time?

Is it just a lost cause until I get a nap or go to sleep? I feel like this will be such a waste of time if I can’t do something to get some studying in……uuuugggggghhhhh…..so frustrating!

I have been known to put my laptop on the kitchen counter and stand up while quizzing. I've had nights where every single one of my children woke up at different times, my husband was working 3rd shift, and I had to go to work the next day, then study that night. It is AWFUL! I don't recommend reading the textbook. I've slept sitting straight up at the kitchen table while trying to read on a day like what you're having. It's pointless. You could also take a 2 hour nap then get back to it. *note* It's fun to go back and try to look at my notes on the sleepy days. Trying to decipher words that slant off the page made AUD a heck of a lot more interesting. 🙂 Good luck!!

I've tried the book today, videos, even some MCQ's……nothing.

@CPAMommyof3 – I think you're right, a nap might be the only way out…..or maybe I just go to bed early tonight and double my study time tomorrow……so frustrating.

As a parent of two I know what you are feeling. I have to leave the house to go study every night after I come home from work. It's not fun. I stay up late after the kids go to sleep because my two year old will not let me just sit there and study.

For staying awake all I can say is drink coffee, and eat nuts! Snacking and coffee is how I get through my studying.

@ahugemistake – do the nuts have a “stay awake” value? Or is it just the munching?

I also have a sassy red headed 3 year old…..On the weekends she watches spongebob while I sit next to her and do MCQ's. Last weekend she looked at me, then went and got her kindle (a discard one that is kind of broken), and when Mommy walked in she told her “shhhh Mommy, I'm studying!” Of course I asked her the other day if I was going to pass the CPA Exam and she said “NO!” lol

I am trying to pass this exam before my second starts walking and talking! I probably won't get any peace and quiet any more lol.

Well nuts like almonds, peanuts, and cashews all have protein and almost no fat which gives you the right type of energy to keep going. They also say if you chew gum while studying since helps keep the brain stimulated.

I find studying when I am really tired a waste of time and counter productive.

You've gotta be sharp to retain this stuff. Reviewing stuff you already know is alright but I can't tackle new material when I am tired.

Don't study for the sake of studying

Stand and study. Spend some time walking around while reading or answering questions that don't require as many calculations/notes
