I work for a union funds office where we manage a multi-employer pension and welfare fund. My title is “collections coordinator” where I enforce the collections policies set by our Board of Trustees. I make sure that the companies pay contributions on time for their employee’s pension and health insurance. Then I send delinquency letters and work with our attorneys to collect money owed to us. My other duties consist of bookkeeping, where I post contribution payments and I also send information to our auditors (collective bargaining agreements and remittance reports) Primary I work with our attorneys to assess withdrawal liabilities and implement law suits. If a company fails to pay on a member due to bankruptcy, we try to collect what we can to cover the insurance eligibility.
I’ve been doing this job for 2 years, and now I’m in a grad accounting program and will be taking the CPA in a year. I will have 3 years experience at this current job. Does this count for accounting experience? I am in the accounting department at my job, but I am not sure if I need to be doing actual auditing or other duties for the experience to fall under “accounting”
Any ideas how firms would view this?
