Lol I was reading it and was thinking, “WHAT! Your baby is taking the CPA exam.” Well thats what this site is for. A lot of your friends and families know how to support us through this but they never truly understand the hardships and the pain that comes with failure. I mean for those ppl on here who pass all four exams on the first try, they dont understand how much it hurts to look at your Status and see no credit there when checking your score. I was very fortunate to just fail one. But I have experienced that pain before and it hurts. You feel low. You feel like you just wasted the last month or two. And its hard to restudy for it was the same motivation. But you gotta overcome and for these exams, a lot of it is a crap shoot. Quantity is more important than quality. You gotta take an “x” amount of exams every testing window. Thats why when I see someone scheduling one exam each testing window, Im shaking my head. It'll take them a full year just to take each exam once and then end of complaining about having their credit lost. I think everyone stands a chance of passing regardless of how much studying they made. Especially if you are a tax or auditing accountant, you will stand a chance atleast. So don't push these exams back. Sorry, I know I am getting off track from your situation.

But BEC is a random crap shoot. The questions they ask are at times very trivial. Either you know it or you dont. So you gotta focus mainly on the questions that you will need to know. 85% of the stuff you study wont appear on the exam. But the 15%, there is no excuse why you should miss any of that. And make sure you dont take the written part too lightly. You might look at it as 15% as opposed to 40%, but that could the difference between pass and fail right there. Make sure you write more. Remember quantity>quality. Address all questions and keep going. Make up stuff if you have to, but keep writing. Make the grader yawn and get bored. If they do, they'll give you a good grade. I mean if you're getting 65-70s oon yor exam, that 15 points right now look huge. There is no reason why you should be doing weaker or even comaparative on that section. There is NO KNOWLEDGE at all needed to do well. If you are a poor writer, invest time in practicing for that.

    Good Luck!

I gave this reply to well meaning friends and family “I have made the decision that the short-term sacrifice my family is making is well justified by the long term benefit of earning my CPA.”

Sammy with all due respect, your opinion on one exam per testing window may work for you. Unless you've done this exam as a mommy who works full time outside the home, you're not likely to understand the time constraints we have.

mla, I understand and I did it with no time constraints at all, so my suggestion is kinda taken off face value. However, I think taking the exam multiple times as often as you can is more important than trying to bank on passing each one on the first try. Like for Auditing, I felt so prepared for it and went into the exam and felt I aced it and came out with a 69, not even close to passing. The way these exams are structured and graded, sometimes its a gamble. LIke they throw out 15MCs and 1 SIM when grading it. Those 15MCs could be questions you got right. You can invest 3 months to study for it, feel like you know your book from cover to cover and still fail it. I'm just appealing to those who work full-time to really push hard to get as many exams in as possible. You might not be prepared to sit for it, but you cannot just wait and hope you pass it on your first try. You gotta at least give yourself a chance. And those who do work in a CPA firm, you already had a huge advantage, one that I didnt have and thats the background knowledge. I opened my becker book really starting from fresh. I didnt even major in Accounting in college. So I really want people to know that even with all the time constraints and everything, you have to still try your best to fit in as many exams as quickly as possible. I read the other day of someone passing BEC without even spending one day to study for it. He was bout to have credit expire and just gave it a shot and passed. Remember these are multiple choice questions on the exams. So the answer is right in front of you. So you always have a shot.

I think another reason for one test per window is money. Whether it's paying for a section, or only affording to buy one section of the review course, etc. No part of this is cheap. I know a lot of firms only pay for the 1st attempt, so if you go in unprepared and fail, then you have to pay to retake it.
