    I’ll be taking four pies (pecan, pumpkin, blood orange, and apple) to my folks house and after eating dinner I’ll do some online shopping and study BEC. As much as I despise this process, I’m thankful that I have the opportunity to takes these exams and to work for a better life.

    Visit family back at home (OH), drink an abundance of alcohol with friends, eat until I cant stay awake and most importantly, NOT study

    I will probably get studying out of the way in the morning, then going black Friday shopping that night and then a little bit more shopping Friday morning. I will then come home and continue studying.

    Fun times ahead!

    I am so tired of these exams I am skipping Thanksgiving this year, so I can hopefully pass my last exam – REG. It’s kind of sad, but I am only one exam away so studying and relaxing is on my agenda until 12/1. Gotta make sacrifices to pass all 4.

    Goodluck everyone.

    @blue I'd pass too but my parents aren't understanding of the sacrifices this test requires and they'd never forgive me if I didn't show up. They can't comprehend why I'm always cooped up at home all the time studying. I have to deny their invitations almost every day and then deal with with questions and guilt trip. Yay CPA!!

    Studying, and a trip to Boston Market for dinner. I'm working Black Friday, mostly because 4 straight days of studying does not appeal to me.

    @Ana

    I hear you 100%. I know some of my family members are disappointed in me bc I miss some family functions, but they have no idea how insane these exams are. I feel guilty, but I’m in the Cramming mode for REG and need to memorize as much of the ridiculous IRC as I can. Good job though for keeping up with Family obligations 👍 The Holidays are meant to be spent with Family – not the miserable CPA Exam.

    Goodluck!!

    I don't get to anything except Thanksgiving and Xmas. But even when I go I study 75% of the time.

    I'll be heading back to Maryland for a few days to visit family. My CPA materials will unfortunately be with me.

    @bluecollarnerd
    I'm noticing that there is a ton of exceptions to tax rules such as AGI phaseouts. How important is it to memorize the numbers?

    Thanks.

    BEC = 72 (6/08/16)
    FAR = ?
    REG = ?
    AUD = ?

    @Lentilcounter

    I’ve had a really hard time trying to decipher which parts of REG are important and which parts are minutia. Just way too much information overload that frankly does not make much sense. Know your AGI rules for estimated taxes paid by an individual, Mom and pop recognized rental losses exception, etc. I don’t want to be misleading, so I couldn’t tell you exactly what to know. Just too many topics covered in REG.

    Goodluck and enjoy the holidays for what they’re worth!!

    I skipped Thanksgiving last year in order to study for Reg. I passed with an 80 a little over a week later. I believe in Karma. Hard work leads to success. Positive thoughts = positive results. This year I will be skipping the holiday again. another year of hard work for, hopefully, the last time! Like @Ana said, I am thankful that I am given the opportunity to succeed at this challenge!

    The taste of success >>>>>> the taste of turkey and stuffing!

    @Ana – I have had some backlash over the YEARS this has taken me. It wasn't until last year that I figured out the recipe Unfortunately, part of that recipe was breaking the news to my family that I'm not available for 2 months at a time. Thankfully, I don't have to take care of anyone but myself, so that makes things easier.

    I would hope that if someone truly cared about you, they wouldn't be offended if you explain to them that you are trying to succeed at something to make a better life for you and your family. If I were you, I'd skip thanksgiving this year and make it up to them at Christmas. Surround yourself with people who support your journey – not people who cause roadblocks!

    @anya you won the prize, Rome??! Wish I was there.

    @Cpa3rd you haven't met my parents lol, they don't quite get how hard the CPA exams are. They talk about coming to America, poor, with two kids, and working and going to school and that I shouldn't complain as much as I do. Also, we came to America in November and our neighbors were giving and warm so Thanksgiving is my dad's favorite holiday. Also, I'm not sure I can make it up at xmas since I'm very likely not going to pass BEC and will need to study for it for early Q1 2018.

    @Ana – You can obviously do as you wish, but I think there is a big difference between complaining and saying “sorry but I'm busy on Thursday and will be unavailable”

    Honestly, I feel for you because I had similar guilt in my life. I had to have a conversation with my family explaining to them that for the next year or two this was going to be more important than dinner. I love thanksgiving. I wish I could be with my family and friends, but right now…this test isn't the most important thing in my life…it's the ONLY thing in my life. I pray that it will pay off! Either way, I wish you good luck! Try to find some time to get some MCQs in on thursday!
