Ok this is a weird question but recently I find that my work is kinda boring and I dont have the intention to stay in public accounting for long. Im still trying to obtain my CPA because one day I’m sure those 3 letters will pay off. I have always been fascinated by politics and hope to serve in a public position one day.

Anyone know whats the best way to jump start a career? Im sorry if this has nothing to do with accounting. I mean I do enjoy tax and all but I just dont like the work I’m doing. Im not even preparing tax returns, Im more like making a budget for an engagement and some small stuff that Admins would do.. but Ive only worked for a little over 5 months so its hard to say. Did you guys ever feel this way on your first job?

    Feeling a little lost…

If you've only worked for five months, give it a little more time before you make any big decisions. The transition from college to your first real job is tough and it takes longer than you'd think to acclimate. That's actually part of the reason I went back to school part time to get my accounting credit hours for the CPA almost immediately after I started working. School was familiar and something I knew how to do well at.

Also, the work you're given when you're new is not always the most exciting, like you said. Once you've been working longer you'll start to get more responsibility and more meaningful work, which makes a big difference in how enjoyable a job is. At that point if you still feel like you're in the wrong career you could start looking into making some changes. Just my two cents!
