Anyone use them to get those last few credits? I graduated university with 147.5 credits and just need one more class, lol.

I’m from NJ and expect to be licensed in NJ btw.

I thought I was 1 class short and was planning to take it at U of Phoenix online while starting the CPA exam process. So I sent in my education transcripts and sent them a certificate of enrollment saying I was starting this class in the next month. Turns out they gave me credit for a Finance class as an accounting credit and I dropped the U of Phoenix class. Saved me a hassle and a ton of money.

How were you guys able to sit for the exam when you were short credit hours? I thought a requirement to sit for the CPA was 150 hours?

@ that0neguy in most states you can sit with 120 hours but need the 150 for licensure.

I'm not sure if credits from that crapshoot of a college would be counted by any state board. I would ask your state board specifically before taking the class.

I know in Michigan, they do count. I was in a similar position before starting my journey. A prior class I thought would be counted for Accounting Information Systems didn't, so I needed to take one. I asked the Michigan coordinator at NASBA if a specific class from U of P would count, and he said it was all good. The nice thing about them is that classes usually only last 5 or 6 weeks so if you are on a time crunch, that helps.

On another note, I had to either have 150 credits, or be enrolled in classes that would get me there before my application to test was approved.

All in all, I wouldn't recommend getting a degree from there, but if all you need is a few classes, its a viable choice.

Similar to @letsrun4it, I sent my transcript to NASBA for a pre-evaluation for $50. I thought I needed a couple more classes but wasn't sure. I had so much community service that I earned a few college credit hours and I was sure NASBA wouldn't accept it. Sure enough, those hours bumped me over 150. If it turns out you do need a few credits, I know LSU offers distance learning accounting courses for reasonable price.
