    Hello All,
My fiance is a nurse and has been looking into become a travel nurse. Basically, she would agree to 3,6,9 month contracts at various hospitals throughout the US.

I am not a CPA (yet) but will start the studying process shortly. Two questions:
    – Would there be any difficulties in sitting for the exam in different states? My application was submitted and approved in Maryland.
    – What type of accounting / finance jobs are available in short term contracts??

Thank you for any information you have!
    -Alex

You can test anywhere, regardless of your jurisdiction. I am a candidate for Colorado, but I have done all my testing in Kansas.

As for traveling accounting jobs, I would imagine finding remote work would be your best bet.

There is a contract market out there, but I would say it is primarily only in the larger markets.

Contract work can be tough. It might take you a few months to get the gig and then your fiance is off to a new hospital at another location.

Be sure to say all of these “job hops” were contract positions on your resume or it will look horrible for you when trying to land a permanent job.

First go at the CPA! Only using Becker
    Reg / Nov 2015 - 87
    Far / Apr 2016 - 79
    Bec / May 2016 - 80
    Aud / Aug 2016

I would call a recruiter with a national presence. Robert Half/Account Temps and KForce are the first that come to my mind. They could provide you with temporary positions as you move around with your fiance. As others have stated, a position that allows telecommuting would be ideal. In my experience this is only offered to tenured employees (10+ years with a good track record) of the company who have extenuating circumstances such as an ill family member.

You can utilize Linkedin as well. I am finding that is a great resource for job hunters. I have about six years of public/private experience and luckily I currently have the luxury of taking a break from work to solely focus on the CPA exam.

I logged into Linkedin just today actually and saw a prominent independent CPA I had corresponded with online a few years back had started a global virtual accounting business and was looking to hire an accountant/business partner to expand his practice. The position is 100% virtual/remote and you are given the freedom to make your own hours.

That would be an ideal position for any CPA candidate who is in the process of studying for the exam 🙂

Still waiting to hear back on the specifics, but the opportunities out there!
