Tim Gearty's use of the word "again" — unintentional or anchor word? - Page 4

I see on here quite a bit that people are annoyed with Tim Gearty’s repeated use of the word “again”. The funny thing is that I barely noticed until other people mentioned it — now I can’t get it out of my head!

Yes it’s annoying and people think he just has speaking issues, but maybe it’s by design. In psychology and neuro-linguistic programming there is a concept called “anchoring”:

    Quote:
How does NLP anchoring work? (

Ever heard of Russian physiologist & psychologist Ivan Pavlov? He is most well known for his findings on human and animal conditioning. While doing a research on dogs’ digestion, he discovered this phenomenon. When it came to meal time, Pavlov would use bells to call his dogs to the food. After repeating this numerous times, he found that even without any food, the dogs would salivate from hearing the sound of the bell.

By doing so, Pavlov associated the ringing sound of the bell to food. And the numerous repetitions have conditioned the dogs to respond to the ringing bell just like how they respond to food.

This is how NLP anchoring works. By conditioning responses to unique NLP anchors, we are able to deliberately get into specific states just by triggering the unique NLP anchor. Just like Pavlov’s dogs.

So NLP anchors are really a stimulus for us to get into whatever states we want. Similarly as Pavlov uses the ringing bell sound to act as a stimulus, with NLP anchoring, we can set certain anchors to act as the stimulus to certain states. And after many repetitions, the association between the NLP anchor and the state will be conditioned.

    […]

Number of repetitions – Naturally the more repetitions you make, the more conditioned the anchor becomes. So make sure you do enough repetitions to make it conditioned.

    (Learn NLP anchoring techniques,wwww.self-improvement-mentor.com)

I can’t help but wonder. He comes off as a really bright guy; I find it hard to believe that it’s because his vocabulary is limited. Thoughts?

It seems that the lengthier the lecture, the more frequent Gearty says “again.” For instance, by the end of the 2 and a half hour R3 Corporate Tax lecture, Gearty is saying “again” a few times a sentence. It's almost as if he is one of those electronic robots that is suddenly going to self-destruct as it repeats “again..again…again..again.”

Someone (who has already passed the exams) should edit a video of him saying “again” over and over again and upload to youtube. That would be quite entertaining.

To OP, that concept works if you repeat something other than “again”!

    More like:

    – “Whose statements are those?”

    – …………

    REG: 83 (August 2013)

    Olinto-isms:

    – “Nevertheless” (not to the extent of Gearty's “again”, but yeah)

    – “Back to the notes

    – “Stretch run”

    – “Top of the next page”

    – “Question number teeewwww” (#2)

    – Jersey Shore references

    – Gearty's girliness (pink dresses) / general disregard for Gearty's life (saving Tim from drowning, etc.)

    Olinto >>>> Gearty

I do like the fact that Gearty has more explanation segments (i.e. the “video” parts). Olinto has fewer but they tend to be pure gold when you get 'em.

OH, and they need to do a CPA beat for AUD… although it would exclusively be Gearty. Still good stuff.

When I started AUD and had to go through the lectures with Tim, I got so bored out of my mind with this Again and Highlight this.

That teaching style is not for me and paying 3000 dollars just to be taught things like that wasn't for me. Happy I switched to Rogers.

Oh man, this is horrible. I'm currently about to finish A-3 and I'm getting so frustrated with this guy. It would be easier if I just highlighted the parts of the book he doesn't want me to highlight.

I am doing NINJA and writing down what he wants us to highlight. It's taking me 3 hours to get through 10 pages. At this rate, it will be Xmas by the time I'm done with the remaining 3 lectures.

Oh, and highlighting does no good. Give some real world examples. Oh, I forgot, it's Auditing and examples would be more boring than reading the book and listening to this guy.

    Thank god for tax work.
