Our value does not come from our skills and abilities, as good as they may be; it does not come from our GPA, our job, a promotion from that job to a better job, our success on the CPA exam, or anything of the like; but our value comes from the fact that we have a Creator who loves us, cares for us, and desires to help us navigate the rough waters of this life in a way that provides security, hope, and true, everlasting joy while we anticipate the life to come, with Him.

I think Skynet might be right. I actually met Tim Gearty back in 1993 when he had Fox Gearty CPA Review. Yes, I am in my 40's.

I personally think he is just boring and read out of the textbook. He doesn't know how to teach. I can read the textbook my own and what he needs to do is EXPLAIN the topics and the wording of the textbook that speaks a different language to us. Just reading with us doesn't make me understand.

    “Well scholars”

    “Well folks”

    “In this particular case…”

I like Tim. Peter is also good. Brown on the other hand was not great in audit in my opinion.

@quittingcpa2013,The books are pretty good, and they have a good MCQ/Simulation test bank, and the mobile app is VERY good.

I still don't think it's worth 3k though. If you can get your work to pay for it though, then I'd definitely grab it.

Tim is best in my book, very thorough although the ‘again' and ‘logict' can get tiresome.

I want to meet one of his daughters so I can have a little Tim Gearty running around saying “BAE BAE!, WAH WAAAAAHHH!”

Corny, yes. Good instructor, even more so. Olinto & Gearty are both great, but Tim is easier to follow than ‘Italian Ice'; too hyperactive for me.

    Welcome back scholars.

In my honest opinion…Becker instructors are WEAK. I understand it's a different format than Roger, there's no comparison. The Becker lecturers don't even teach it's brutal.

Time after time Tim says the wrong thing, reads the wrong thing, but I will say, he never highlights the wrong thing, he just highlights everything to avoid being guilty of that.

Dull lectures, hate his emphasis on highlighting. Never really paid much attention to Olinto either but I give him some credit for being more enthusiastic than Gearty.

I took live classes for my 3rd go at FAR, and one instructor, Bob DeFillipis, always makes fun of him when we get to problems featuring TAG Corporation (Timothy Aloysius Gearty). He joked that Tim really loves himself, though they are apparently friends. I'd love to see them ribbing each other.

Bob also said Tim's BASE formula is too basic for us, although the next instructor after him (Pete Cupo) really emphasized the value of BASE. Take from that what you will. Bob does go off on tangents in the beginning of class but his enthusiasm holds my attention for 4 hours even when I'm tired. Pete is more dry but he's still worth listening to because he goes beyond Olinto/Gearty in telling you what to focus on (which Bob does too). Let's just say that online lectures won't tell you dollar value LIFO isn't so important.

FYI for NYC area people, Bob also teaches AUD.

    FAR 57 (11/2014), 64 (1/2015), 79 (7/2015)
    AUD 68 (2/2015), 79 (11/2015)
    REG 79 (1/2016)
    BEC 81 (4/2016)

Lol I love reading all these! Listening to Tim and the stupid highlighter is part of what made me stop doing the lectures! He basically just wants to read and highlight like everyone else has said. The guy may be a rich genius but Becker needs someone else for sure!
