The title says it all. I gained even more weight this season than my previous 2 combined. My firm was acquired by a top ten firm and this season was extra stressful with all the system and workflow changes. Now it’s time to shed the extra pounds gained from all the emotional eating. I’m hitting the cardio but wanted to start a thread to see if anyone had any post tax season weight loss tips.

Traditional methods as well as crash diets and crazy ideas are welcome. I’m looking for some fresh ideas.

    Thanks.

Change your diet, don't eat cookies, cut sugar and carbs, and then work out.

I just got a Bellison “reformer.” If anyone doesn’t know what that is, it’s a mini trampoline made in Germany.

They are so popular, I have to wait 4-6 weeks to get it. It’s supposed to be fun and easy on the joints.

Hopefully will be here so I can jump and study for FAR at the same time.

Do paleo. Remember, it's 80% nutrition and 20% fitness.

losing weight is easy, you just exercise more and eat healthier…kind of like saying studying for the CPA exam is easy, you just get the review course, set a study schedule, and stick to it!

of course both are easier said than done haha

^^^^^hahaha Skynet would so say that. I’ve lost 17 pounds since March, but it is definitely not from extracurricular activities. Lol It is the stress of FAR, clean eating, and running. 😉

Wow some of these responses are just horrible and very inaccurate. I am working towards my CPA, but am also going to be working to become a certified personal trainer and nutrition coach. Losing weight is a very easy concept, and if you can pass the CPA exam you should also have the motivation to lose weight and be your best self. All weight loss comes down to is calories in vs calories out. I did notice someone above informed you of the macro nutrients in foods (Proteins, Carbs, and Fats). I definitely would encourage you to set these up for fat loss, I would recommend a 40-40-20 split (P,C,F). Macro nutrients aside, the biggest thing you want to make sure you get right is calories in vs out. DO NOT overcompensate and try to lower your calories drastically, you will hit a wall very quickly and probably regain everything you've lost. I would first calculate your BMR (Basal Metabolic Rate) and multiply this by your activity rate using the Katch Mcardle formula to figure out your TDEE (Total Daily Expenditure). After finding this out, subtract 500-750 calories from this amount depending on how much weight you need to lose and that's what you need to eat on a daily basis. Only adjust after you've hit a plateau of around 3-4 weeks. Let me know if you have any questions and good luck! 🙂

    TL;DR version of losing fat:

    1. Figure out your body fat %. Ideally, you can use calipers, but averaging online calculators are a good estimate.
    2. Figure out how fast you want to lose fat (1.5-2 lbs per week is average and recommended long term)
    3. Calculate your maintenance calories and then calculate calories you need to lose whatever you decided on at #2
    4. Set your macros. Like Titleistg0lfer mentioned, set your macros. If you are VERY overweight, I recommend you lean towards a higher protein ratio. Something like 50% P/25%C/25%F. reason being that protein is more satiating than Carbs or Fat and very overweight individuals tend to respond well to lower carb diets in the beginning. Once you start losing fat (aka 20lbs+) you should shift your macros slowly.
4a. Use fitday or something similar to track your calories
    5. Setup a basic newbie weight training routine. No need to kill yourself, but you want to make sure you are lifting to maintain as much muscle as possible. As you lose pounds, your body will want to get rid of the most expensive (calorie-wise) part of your body. In this case it is lean body mass. AKA muscle
    6. Make sure to have adequate levels of protein. I'd say make sure to eat 1 gram per 1lb per LBM is about right (LBM = Total weight * (1-BF% [you calculated BF% in step #1]). So if my LBM is 140 lbs, I should eat 140 grams of protein in a day. As you lose weight (aka 20 lbs+) you can reduce this little by little.
    7. Do an 8 week cycle of dieting, then do a 2 week cycle of eating at maintenance (see step #3). Then go back to 8 weeks of dieting. Rinse, adjust your other steps to your new weight, and repeat until you hit your goal.

Ladies, you will lose fat slower than men. It is what it is. Blame evolution. Also, fat targeting with specific exercises is BS So just forget about it. You will lose fat according to your genetics. Of which you cannot change.

Good luck everyone! Feel free to post any questions.
