AnonymousInactiveThe title says it all. I gained even more weight this season than my previous 2 combined. My firm was acquired by a top ten firm and this season was extra stressful with all the system and workflow changes. Now it’s time to shed the extra pounds gained from all the emotional eating. I’m hitting the cardio but wanted to start a thread to see if anyone had any post tax season weight loss tips.
Traditional methods as well as crash diets and crazy ideas are welcome. I’m looking for some fresh ideas.

ABTX411ParticipantI call my weight loss method “the CPA study diet.” That means I eat lunch at work, but I never have time to eat dinner, so I just eat a cliff bar while I'm going through MCQs at night. It seems to work unintentionally well.
In all reality, just stay away from sugar, carbs, and processed foods as much as you can. Stick to veggies and lean meats. I'm convinced that the FDA food pyramid allocating so much of the “balanced diet” to carbs is a complete conspiracy fueled by the agriculture industry, but that's a topic for another day.

StilgoinParticipantSorry, but there are no gimmicks- believe me. I would have found them. lol Track calories with Fitness Pal for free. I do 1500 per day and try to eat 50% healthy carbs, 30% fat, 20% protein. I try to exercise 3-5 hours per week- running, hiking, biking, walking, swimming- whatever I feel like doing. Ususally hiking if I’m tired- or at least going for a brisk walk for an hour. I’m not a gym rat because I love the outdoors, but going to the gym makes you work harder. I feel losing weight is really more about what you eat than exercise. The exercise just keeps me sane and is much cheaper than therapy. 😀

Soon2beCPAParticipantWhat really worked for me was tracking calories using an app – I use the Lose It! app but I've heard great things about My Fitness Pal as well. I also started doing Intermittent Fasting where I basically consume my allotted 1600 calories within an eight hour window then I fast the remainder of the day (I work it out so that I'm sleeping most of the time I'm not eating – makes it more tolerable that way!). I don't really know the science behind how it works, but I lost 20 pounds over the last 10 months or so doing Intermittent Fasting and I also added exercise because I wanted to get some muscle definition. I do kickboxing about 4-5 days a week and I feel like that's really helped a lot with speeding up my metabolism. I know everyone says they don't have time to exercise because they're so busy studying, but I've found that exercise really helps me with my studies – it helps me feel motivated and I've found that it gets my mind in a state of perseverance. Sure, waking up at 4:30am to exercise absolutely sucks and is super painful, but I just keep reminding myself that this is temporary and my body will thank me later.

It's free and you can barcode scan anything you eat. I live in Germany right now, but it's worked in all of the countries I have lived in. I've never had to add anything to their database.
Unfortunately calorie counting is the way it has to be sometimes if you seriously want results. I go through circular phases – calorie counting, then relax for a little. It works really well for me.

TncincyParticipantWell tax season is over and I definitely need to get rid of 15 immediately, I am doing raw cabbage and apple salad or fruit and spinach salad for about 10 days. I am doing no more than 24 oz per day. no sweets, coffee, bread, or dairy. I have did this before so I am really depending on it to work this time too I drink high alkaline water with lemon or yerba mate tea and I stop eating after 6pm. I am also walking at least 45 min.while listening to ninja audio ( usually in the a.m)

SangParticipantI get off work at 5:30 pm everyday, and it takes me about 1 hour to drive home in traffic.
When I eat dinner at 7:00 pm, my food has not settled yet, so it is hard for me to jump on the treadmill right after eating dinner.
So now, I eat dinner at work at 5:30 pm before driving home.
I then hop on the treadmill to walk and run from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm.Eating dinner early at 5:30 pm helps me with losing weight.

…and buy his Flexible Diet book. Wanna do it super fast? Buy his Rapid Fat Loss diet book.
Anyway, the guy hates money and puts 70% of his book contents n his articles, so feel free to read them. But The Flexible Diet taught me everything I needed to know to setup my own regimen. It's a no thrills read that demystifies weight/fat loss.
Basically, fat loss is a function of:
1. Less calories
2. Keeping your muscle mass/proper protein consumption
3. Appropriate exercise regime (customized to your goals and body)That's basically it. Enjoy. I lost a ton of fat doing his RFL diet. Hard part was getting off of it and eating like a normal person again.
Also, feel free to ask anything you wanna know, Fat loss is kind of my thing. Went from 230 to 170 on a 5 ft 8 inch frame. 🙂

Jdn9201ParticipantGoogle Whole 30. I did it October 2014 and lost 10+ lbs without exercise, and am thru week 1 of doing it again. There's a book about it, but it's no added sugar, no grains, no dairy, and I'm excluding alcohol (I would imagine alcohol is excluded, but can't recall). I haven't weighed myself yet, but I feel SO much better and it's crazy how certain foods taste differently – bananas or sweet potatoes taste like candy.

muohiobkParticipantDolce Diet! Guy is awesome, and I never felt hungry while doing his 3 weeks to shredded. Its more a lifestyle than a diet, but he has helped many MMA guys reach weight for fight AKA he knows his stuff. Also has a living lean cookbook I have come to enjoy and I am not a cook at all. His breakfest bowl in the morning is great

buy yourself a bicycle at a bike shop and get it fitted. cycling is a great way to exercise in HR zone 2-3 which is conducive to burning fat. I find cycling to be extremely beneficial for my mental health. Go outside, explore new roads.
That said, weight loss is at least – but it's really more than at least – all about the diet.
treadmills suck, go ride a bike.

June2016Participant@Soon2beCPA & others.. when you say you eat 1600 calories do you add back some of the amount of calories you burn when exercising or you just eat 1600 no matter how much you exercise? I am always unsure what is the right thing to do.
