Take REG or BEC before 2017 changes?

I cannot decide which exam to take. I can only take one before 2017. I want to take REG more than BEC because a 4 hour Tax exam does not sound fun. I found the topics in BEC to be much easier than the REG (Tax) topics while I was an undergraduate. However, BEC sounds relatively easier to pass before 2017 because it will only be 3 hours and NO sims!

Am I making the right decision to take REG before the 2017 changes. Like I said, I found the Taxation topics to be much more challenging than anything in BEC (as an undergraduate). Therefore, I want to knock out REG before 2017. I’m wondering if the 4 hour REG exam will be the new “hardest” exam in 2017 and takes FAR’s title.

    Thanks for any feedback!

Hmm, can't you take both? I know it's a BIT daunting. I don't think REG has as much changes as BEC. BEC is getting SIMs…. to me, that's a huge change. REG is getting more 4 MCQ and 2-3 more SIMs. BEC is less MCQs, retaining WCs, AND they're getting SIMs. Get BEC out of the way now… because writing WCs isn't a quick task. I would spend time after your AUD exam and start studying for BEC, take it mid-Jan and then spend the rest of Q1 and go ham on REG.

Faith will get you places. If you can pass FAR, you can pass BEC.

    BEC 80 (10/23/15)
    FAR 72 (4/2/15); 83 (7/11/16)
    REG 52 (4/28/15)
    AUD (9/9/16)

    hasy,

Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, I am so burned out that I will only be able to take one exam. These exams are brutal – IMO. If I was not burned out, then I could possibly pass both but that is definitely not the situation. I just take one exam at a time, master the material, then move on. Still, I'm having trouble deciding which exam to take, but I will most likely knock out REG because Corporate Taxation was much harder than anything in BEC- IMO. Such a tough decision! Thanks.

I agree with Hasy, REG will only be extended but BEC will be added SIMS and who knows what sims they will give you. I would do bec first and that gives you more time to study and grasp the material for REG.

    FAR - 2/16 - 78
    BEC - 2/16 - 78
    AUD - 8/16
    REG - 8/16

I would do both. Better to try and fail then to not have tried at all. Plus, BEC is the shortest to study for in my opinion. which of the two to take, I can't really tell you. If you are going to study for one, I would actually recommend FAR since FAR takes the longest to study for and you only have one to take.

Even if you only cram the BEC material in for a few weeks, I would try to get it in at the end of the testing period. I squeezed in BEC between a REG fail and a REG retake and got my first pass.

Do not underestimate BEC. I see a lot on these forums that people try and cram BEC thinking it will be easy and they don't pass. BEC is all over the place material wise. I would take BEC and get it out of the way before it gets sims added to it.
