    Hi guys,

I want to get your opinion on changing jobs and titles. Is staff higher than junior accountant or it’s equal? I always thought it was staff and then junior.
I’m currently a staff in financial reporting and received an offer for a job titled Jr level accountant/auditor and will report to a senior accountant. the salary offered is the same as what I am currently making although I will negotiate it for more.

I don’t want to be taking a paycut and downgrading.

    Opinions?

    Thanks.

I think it depends what the job duties are. I went from a Senior Accountant to a Staff Internal Auditor. It was a raise but I was afraid of the title “downgrade”. But the reality was I didn't have audit experience so I wasn't qualified for a Senior Auditor.

We had to move for my husband's job and although my employer liked my experience as a Senior Accountant, they most often reference my previous experience as the Staff Auditor – especially as it relates to SOX Compliance. So I wouldn't view it as a downgrade especially if it's relevant or new/different experience you can put on your resume for the future.

@jdub Thanks for your response. Did you have to take a pay cut also?

No I didn't – partly because I went from a medium sized private company to a large public company that just inherently paid better and had better benefits.
