I’m currently studying for FAR and take it on the 25th of August. I’m on my way back through the second time in the chapters but feel as if I retained absolutely NOTHING from the first time I studied. Most of it is broad general knowledge that I remember but with the way Becker is structured with the ungodly long questions it is taking way too much time. My first time through I would look up a lot of stuff and still could only get about 70-80%. Now I’m struggling to get 60-70% on my second pass without looking much of anything up and only skimming the chapters before I start. I wanted at least a week of progress tests to where I can get all of the questions at the same time to mix things up and give me a good example of how the test would be but I’m going way too slowly and doing way too poorly to make up time. My question is, should I ditch the becker from here on out and just do Ninja MCQs for $40? I took Ninja for Audit and really liked it because I felt that the questions were a lot more adapted to the actual exam and not Becker questions which were from pre simulation days. I need help soon! I have a very limited window left and dont want to waste any time. I also only have three windows left including this one and truthfully, I’d rather not have to utilize them anymore. I’m sooo tired of this exam. (I took FAR last year and failed with a 55 because I panicked. I also have ADD and was unmedicated so I wasnt focused either then. I have since retaken the Becker class entirely and have done much better up until now)

I really just need more exposure to all the material but the amount of depth is absolutely too much for me to handle at this point and is making me panic all the time. I don’t think Ninja ia necessarily easier or anything, I just think the questions resemble the examinations more and may give me a lot more opportunities to go through more problems.

Here is my suggestion…

1. If you feel that Becker, or any other review course isn't working, then by all means get another one. I can honestly say I would not be a CPA today if it weren't for the Ninja products. I know they worked for me. I don't believe they are easier, but I do believe they are easier to understand, if that makes sense.

2. When you are working the problems make sure you understand why the right answer is right and why the other three are wrong. When you get a question wrong, write down, in your own words, the concept being tested. Even if you have to write the same thing 50 times, you need to know it like the back of your hand. Explain it to yourself. Explain it to the dog or a pillow. If you can teach it, then you know it and are ready to move on.

3. Make sure you know the basics. If you struggle with a bank recon, don't even bother with international inventory. Remember that the exam is there to insure that you aren't a threat to the public. Not saying that you are, but you have to know the basics like you know your name.

4. Make sure that you take your meds. I didn't know I was ADD until I was about half way through a 5 year train ride through hell. Adderall is your friend if you need it. Don't let anyone tell you that taking it gives you an unfair advantage. It simply levels the playing field for people who need it.

5. GET MAD!!! And learn how to STAND!

Study like your life depends on it.

Take control of your life. Chaos is never controlled.

Accept that you won't know everything. If you don't know the basics, you won't master the advanced.

Never give the bully a free shot. If you aren't studing and watching television, you are giving the bully a free shot.

Discipline yourself to the point of obsession.

You've got 10 days. You can do it!

Thanks a lot! I finally decided to drop Becker and am working solely on Ninja right now. How closely related are the questions to FAR to Ninja? I seem to be doing a lot better on Ninja than Becker, mainly because the questions arent ridiculously convoluted and seem more to the point.

Hopefully you will see a mixture of really convoluted and straight forward. The convoluted ones are worth more points than the straight forward, but you won't get many convoluted if you don't get the straight forward ones right.

Sorry Skynet 🙁 I've been doing this thing called work. It really gets in the way of my active internet social life, but it pays the bills. I've been trying to get my taxes done all day and I've procrastinated for most of it, because, I loathe income taxes. It is now 8:24 pm and I'm about to go home. I'm seriously contemplating sending all of my stuff to a fellow A71 alumn and paying her to do it. Auditors should NEVER have to do their own taxes! I'm also seriously contemplating a stop at the liquor store before I get home. Tonight feels like a hangover maker!

When do you get that last score?

It worked for me and my life kinda did depend on it. I got my last passing score 3/8 and found out I had cancer on 3/12. I passed the wrong test!
