Should I give up?

This question may have asked so many times.. I guess it is one that I should ask myself- Personally, I am exhausted and dont want to go on anymore especially a lot of family stuff going on for me. I am currently 3/4 done but as y’all can see by my signature BEC is set to expire and REG is dropping off soon after, if I fail FAR. Assuming I did I may have to retake 3 parts instead of 1. Exams aside, Im not sure how this will affect my job given I haven’t passed compared to my colleagues who have.

But the main reason I really wanna put these exams down for now is because my grandma is in hospice care- she can leave us (my family) any moment. I dont wanna just sit at home and study after work, rather I spend some time with her (I consider myself as very family oriented). I dont wanna have any regrets. Id imagine if I continue on and what if she leaves one day and I’m sitting in prometric taking the dang exams and not have access to my phone.. I would hate not to be at her bedside at that moment.

Im just super lost right now and the thought of having 3 parts to retake isn’t doing me any good. What would you guys do if you were in my shoes?? I wanna hear some opinions and prob talk to my boss before anything. I dont think I passed FAR this time but will hope for the best come release time. Thanks guy if you make it to the end!

Im trying to stay positive and not be so pessimistic (we need more smiles nowadays!)

Keep at it. Even if section expires, you might be able to file an appeal so you don't lose credit.

@brickell, can you elaborate on the process?? Are there more info on AICPA? Thanks! I recall someone mentioned that before but I wasn't sure what the process was like- in terms of docs I need to submit etc. Appreciate your feedback.

Sorry about your situation by the way. My family situation isn't the best either so I can know it can be a tough decision. I don't have a link at the moment, but I'm pretty sure you would just have to provide a copy of a death certificate if that happens and file the appeal. I would recommend contacting them ahead of time just to let them know your situation so they can tell you exactly what you need to do and what they can do for you. It might even be possible to have it extended ahead of time before even having to provide a certificate. Best of luck to you.

My little comment… Do NOT give up on the exam! If you have been studying, just try to finish. If you haven't, doubt you will get a chance in a week.

Believe me, I know how you feel. My brother, just passed away in the beginning of November. He was still pretty young… He was hospitalized since August. I am not going to go through all the details because it is a very sad story. All I am going to say that after he passed away, I thought I will never ever catch up with studying. However, after crying for days and days, I said to myself, “Does my brother want me to be happy or not?” I came back from Europe on November 17… Plan on taking my last exam on December 9. And I do my best (of best) to pass not only for me, my family, but for my brother! I know he will be happy for me! I keep crying typing this… unfortunately, we have life behind these exams.

Worse to worse, you can always appeal. I am sure abut it. I may, but I hope to pass and be done!

After he passed away, I found this, “There are things that we don’t want to happen but have to accept, things we don’t want to know but have to learn, and people we can’t live without but have to let go. ~Author Unknown”

Hope I did not hurt your feelings!

    Good luck to you!

Sorry to hear about your grandmother! Studying while dealing with things like this must be very difficult.

I'm not in your position, so it's hard for me to say what to do, but I will tell you this. For me, passing these exams has been the hardest thing I've ever done in my life. The hard work and discipline required for this, is unlike anything I've ever had to do. For me, this test is about more than being marketable to employers, or the money I could potentially earn – it's about proving to myself that when I work hard and put my mind to something I can achieve my goals. It's also about getting back up after getting knocked down over and over and over again. I need to experience crossing the finish line after everything I've put into this!

I don't mean to say that this is more important that being with your family, and to be honest – I don't know what I would do in your shoes. BUT this journey has been much bigger than just a test for me, and I would hate to see someone quit after being so close.

@OP sorry to hear that you are having such a rough go of it. I dont think you should quit. I've been 75% done since 10/16. Ive failed REG for the last 3 attempts. 60, 66, and lastly a 73 that i had to wait 3 months to get thanks to standard change. Stay as positive as you can. These tests are a mind game! Bc they pass half of us then fail the other half with the goal of discouraging as many ppl as possible in the name of “prestige”

If the CPA is a goal you want to achieve, time and circumstance are irrelevant.

I believe you are experiencing the law of diminishing marginal returns on your FAR efforts.
