    hello everyone,
I need some advice here please.

A little background, I graduated in 2008 from a foreign university, came to US, fast forwarding im blessed with 3 kids with my youngest being 2yrs old now and have been a stay at home mom all this time. But i always kept doing certifications or courses throughout.
Anyhow i gave my first CPA exam in Jan and did not pass, went into depression and randomly started applying for jobs. In that time i was approached by robert half, gave two interviews for two separate firms and got an offer from one (its a mortgage bank)
They offered part time first month and then full time. The rate is minimum so pay is no attraction to me.
My question is should i accept the offer, or should i concentrate on my CPA exams and get it done.
also would working in a mortgage firm help me out in any way?
    Thanks alot

I used to audit private mortgage lenders and their business model is pretty unique to their industry, although overall operations should be pretty similar to any other businesses.

I don't think I'd be down for a minimum pay. Do what you gotta do to suit your needs though.

Minimum pay would be acceptable in public to gain experience that transaltes to all industrys..

Pass the CPA then look at the market..youll be more valuable..some mortgage broker will pigeon hole you into that..

You dont know how to run an audit..nor do tax work..so wheres your value?

Id avoid any private position until you have a couple years under your belt in public…PAss the exam and revisit the market if possible this fall

@Adam the reason i was thinking of considering this position was to atleast dip my feet a little into the market plus its only part time.
do you think it will be worth while or i should still concentrate on the CPA.

Working part time should not interfere with your CPA studies, and at least it gets something on your resume to build off of.
CPA needs to be the top priority. If work gets in the way, you're not doing it right.

All I'm saying is if you have to focus all your time on one or the other go with the CPA..nobody will care if you worked at some low pay job where your skill's dont transfer..This industry is brutal and unforgiving..the partners simply just dont care for anything other then you getting the job done, with no training and in my current position workpapers to follow, youre left to simply figure it out yourself.

That said its up to you on what your goals are and what you want to do..if you dont ever want to work in public..why do the CPA at all? If you do want to work in public focus on the exam if you can and try to find an entrance in where you can get good experience take that.

Working part time and studying is easily doable..you really only need to study 2-3 hrs day if that..should stay focused on the material..So if part time is the option you could do both, I'm just sayin nobody is gonna care about the above formentioned position.

“if you dont ever want to work in public..why do the CPA at all?”

Don't let the choice of public or industry dictate whether or not you get a CPA. It's just as valuable in industry as it is public. It's something you take with you for all of your professional career. You don't need public to “make it” either. That's just a pill every newbie, no life-experience having kid says because his/her professor shoved it down their throat… Success is what you make of it, and it doesn't always show up in the form of following the herd.
